Kack, Kack, Kacklers! - and Sandhills
I was out bass fishing on Colorado Lake (by Corvallis) this evening, and saw hundreds and hundreds of cacklers coming over. Looked like they were on a string headed for Fern Ridge. I know Saturday is supposed to be bluebird, but oh, man, there's a lot of birds in the sky.
So how did I do on the bass? Caught one nice one (released) and hooked up with two others - one of them big. It was hard to concentrate though, watching the sky instead of my plug. I sat there with my head tilted back and my eyes glued to the heavens. My buddy, who doesn't hunt waterfowl (for physical reasons), just laughed at me.
They're baaaaaaaccckk!

Skein,
Be careful when you lean your head back and look at geese over head. I hear that the "green sauce" dosen't taste all that good.
I'm sure you'vev heard that as well, but I care about you man! Then again....... It good be good camo....
The invasion of the sqeeks has begun! Quick pass me the 3-1/2" mags!.

Re: Kack, Kack, Kacklers! - and Sandhills
Update:
All day today flock after flock of Sandhill Cranes have been flying over my place in Sweet Home. I'll try to count the next batch, but I'm guessing 80 to 100 in each flight, and flight after flight have come over, like about every 10-12 minutes.
There musta been some nasty weather up north, and I don't just mean Seattle's rain. Something is sure bringing the birds down. Do I sound excited?
What are you guys seeing up around the Big River?

Re: Kack, Kack, Kacklers! - and Sandhills
Wave after wave of "Kacks" and Tavs for the last 3 - 4 days over my house and more geese than I've ever seen on Tillamook bay, I even heard widgeons the other night, while standing on my deck.
Hint: If you don't clean your Final Approach it's always "ready".......and smells that way
