I worked way too hard for 13 last weekend at Yaquina. Lots of undersized.

I saw large quantities of very large crab at the cooker that were caught at Waldport. Do yourself a favor and head down there.

Well Phil, it appears that it's just you and I that are the losers. Seems like everybody else says they did great on Yaquina.

Toothmaker and I hit the bay Sunday with his new-to-him boat and worked our tails off for 11 dungies. Though the numbers were low, three of what we did get were huge, over 8". We also pulled up 2 or 3 6+" reds, but tossed them back, along with the biggest 5-armed sea star I've ever seen and an 18" sunflower star. (How come those big starfish are always in the traps when it's MY turn to pull and empty?)

What boat were you in, and did you find a Hunter Ed class for your boy last year?

Old Coot,

I was in the little Marlin with the hardtop. Were you in the black Stabi-Craft? What a beautiful boat!

The boy still has not done his hunter safety. I got the books for him to do home study but he has a hard time spending the time when there are other things to do. I contacted the gal at ODFW who coordinates the programs and she said they will be posting new dates in January. It is at the top of my priority list to get him in an early class.

Thanks again for your help.

Waldport was really good yesterday. A friend went out a got a salmon by the Oysterhouse and threw in some pots and pulled them after fishing. Ended up with 2 limits of nice crab.

I wasn't in the Stabi-Craft, but I did drool on it a little at the washdown station. I was in a white 16' open aluminum Lowe with a white Johnson on it. There were three of us in it.

Were you the guy that got bumped manuevering to the trailer in the take-out queue?

We crabbed from the OSU dock up to the foot of the hill by Sawyers. Just picked up onesies and twosies here and there. Maybe the hot spots were further down - or up.

I'll open a thread when I get my winter hunter ed schedule set.

Does anybody crab between the bridge and the jetty or is everyone further in by southbeach?

Nope...I didn't get bumped at take out.

I think I was further down from you..just below the OSU dock.

We tried on Sunday just outside the bridge, but didn't get any crabs, nor see any caught down there. Was better higher up.

About 8 days ago I had two heavy pots about 40 from the north jetty. Very few crabs in those two pots and no keepers.

Was out Sat with 7 for 3 pots - lots of crab just few keepers. Used Chix legs and wings. Nobody else appeared to be setting it on fire either.

Ran into fellow ifisher - great family out for some crabbing and fun. We talked for some time exchanging potential spots for hot crabbing action, etc... Don't you know I forgot his ifish name - shoot.

Netarts this last Thursday was not as good for us as it was three weeks ago. Differences between the two trips:

1st trip, 23 large keepers, 6 rings, chicken as bait along the highway.

2nd trip, 14 keepers (a few large ones), 6 rings, 3 Danielsons traps, tuna and salmon as bait again along tyhe highway.

I think we're going to stick with chicken as it is not crumbly and does not disinegrate in the water like fish does. Does not stink, and is seal proof.

We tried out in the lower bay by the yellow house, but we saw nothing in the rigs on either trip.

I actually like Netarts for its small lake feel, but will be making a few trips to Walrport this winter/spring. In the past, dad and I stayed at the KOA above the bridge, and crabbed from the dock. This year, we're in the boat.

See ya down there!

I crabbed Waldport Saturday with TWB. It was slow at first, but as it got closer to high slack it picked up real fast. Filled 2 limits using shad and chicken in 5 pots and 1 ring.

How long is the rain going to screw up the bay? Anyone know? Seems like the fresh water drives the crabs out further into the lower bays/ocean.

We did a low key soak of three traps on Wed the 9th. soaked em for four hours and came up with 22 really nice solid keepers. Several of them were the biggest Dungy's I have ever seen on the Ore coast!!! The weather was fine also! We did the damage downstream from Sawyers on the south side of the channel. Fish On!!! MM
