Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is worth?
I know a guy who wants to trade me his 1988 Almar 17'5" center console boat for my 16' Arima. His boat is loaded with a 115 Mercury(prop) and 10 HP Honda, moorage cover, camper top, fishfinder, dual batteries, Shorelander Galvanized trailer and more. I think he was the original owner.
He said it's all in great shape. I can't find much info on the older Almar boats anywhere. He also said the 17.5 center console is very rare. Does anyone know what that boat is worth? Considering it's in good shape visually and mechanically and the motors are around the same vintage as the boat.
Ball Park Anyone?
Thanks,
ML

He's going to be asking 7k in the paper soon. From what I've heard Almar makes a great boat.
I would appreciate some serious opinions. I'm sure somebody has a clue what they are worth.
For you guys under the $200 mark I do have a small blow up raft I'll sell you. : )

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is worth?
I fished from one of those several years ago on the Quinault River. It was narrow but heavy as a tank. I loved it. It had a raised platform in front but was still open. I thought it was a great sled. I have nothing to offer as far as price.
Those Almars are a tough boat. 7K sounds good if the motors are in good shape. Get them checked out before you buy. And check NADA.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is worth?
I just bought a 22' SeaSport and am going broke paying for it. My little Arima 16' has to go. I put it on the Boat Trader and this guy is offering me this trade. I would need to sell it eventually, but sounded like a great boat.
Maybe I should just wait for a cash deal. My wife would like that better. I'm spending a ton rigging this SeaSport and making payments. It should be an awesome Halibut and Tuna year next season!
Thanks,
ML

I have two friends with almar's one is 19'the other 17' both are in good shape and I doubt either would sell them for that price. NADA might have it for ya.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
I had a 17 ft almar center console some years back. It was a good, solid boat. 7K sounds fair if the motors are solid. I'd have a mechanic check out the big motor, especially.
Almar and NorthRiver are now the same company, but they weren't back when that boat was made. Boat design has come a ways since then - the newer V-sleds handle quite a bit better in turns.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
It sounds like they make great boats. Almar still has it's own website and makes mostly big ocean boats now.
I will post his boat on the Boats for Sale section and let someone get a good deal. I don't want to do a trade. I'm sure he will sell it.
Thanks for the input!

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
Almars were/are great boats! Built like a tank, but they also carried that price tag, so they lagged on sales. They continued building larger boats (great designs), and I believe that North River bought them for their "big boat expertise".
My dad had a 17' forward helm (1989) with a 90 Merc. Great boat, but not a speed demon! He paid $6000.00 in the late 90's and sold it 2 years ago for over $7000.00.

What do these boats look like? Is the hull similar to a Bayrunner? Somebody mentioned "sled." Are these a river boat or an ocean/bay boat?
Like My Limit said, you can't find squat about this boat on the internet.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
I found out it has a deep v up front and then flattens out to the rear. I guess they have a really nice and stable ride.
Law Enforement Agencies in Washington have used them for patrol boats.
I'm learning as I go. I also read they have floatation like an Arima. Sound like nice boats.

I have a 24
what model is it, a "lite" ? or jet stream - which could still be a prop.
Ugly green did have one - a 19' as I recall.
ML as I recall, you were pointed to bigger almar when you were looking for a better ride.
Just call the factory - talk w Mike or Tim in Tacoma - they have a build book and can give / will give you honest assessment of value - they may even have photo of when it was new. They treat me like gold and I bought a below average boat from them.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
Tomitime,
I have two boats right now. I have my new SeaSport 22 Sportsman and I have an Arima 16'. I'm keeping my big boat I just bought a month ago. I'm selling my little Arima and this gentleman offered me a trade.
I posted his ad in our ad section also.
I was asking about the value in case I wanted to trade. I think I'll just wait till he sells it. Looks like a nice boat for someone.
Thanks,
ML

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
They make/made a lot of different hulls. I had a Lite, which was about a 10* vee hull. It was a good little boat. They always had a reputation for good construction, though the fit and finish of mine (bought used) was nowhere near what my NorthRiver Sportster (bought 4 years ago) was.

Kujo,
I'll make you a deal. I'll trade him for my Arima 16' and then trade you the Almar for your new Pocket Rocket???
I really like that Pocket Rocket!! Something tells me the deal would not pencil out though. : )

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
Try www.nada.com Look under boats. I'm not sure it will be listed that far back and they depreciate the heck out boat values. But it's what the retail dealers use.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
Yes, the retail dealers will use NADA for your trade in so they can steal it from you. When they sell a used boat they won't mention what NADA reccommends they sell it for.
NADA is a horrible source for used boat prices unless you want to fool someone into thinking a boat is worth less than it's true market value.
That's the main thing a boat is only worth what someone will pay for it. Not many people in Alaska will pay a penny for a 22' Fiberglass center console boat like they use in Florida. Boats are worth different amounts based on supply, demand and reginional boat designs, which are worth good money only in certain regions.
I knew by asking IFISHERS to tell me what a boat is worth I could get an idea of local interest and prices for a boat like this. From the feedback I've recieved it sounds like the gentleman is selling his boat for a great price and it should sell fast.
I'm sorry about the rant, but NADA just seems to get me fired up.
Thanks again for all the feedback!

P-Ride posted some photos on the guy's ad in the for sale section. Looks pretty nice to me, but I'm not an aluminum boat guy.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is wort
I had a 17' almar lite. built like a tank, solid, with excelent workmanship. It might have been a 7deg. bottom with a little more V in the bow. If the water was rough, you need a seatbelt and raingear.
Before I bought it, I called Almar in Tacoma and talked to the owner. He told me that in the late 80's he tried to break into the small custom boat market. He found that he wouldnt work as cheaply as the competition and compromise his reputation. He quit the small boat market there after.
Two years ago I sold it for $7,300.

For what it's worth - I just saw one-a 14ft. jet for $6800. and I think your buy has alot more in motor value. I really like their layout for fishing - good luck.

Re: Anyone know what 1988 Almar 17.5 boat is worth?
I was looking at an Almar a couple of years ago. I was also wondering about price, and called the factory in Tacoma. One of their sales guys talked to me for quite a while about the boat and told me what he thought was a fair price. He seemed to keep up with the used prices of their boats on a fairly regular basis. Very good boat and customer service.

That was four years ago, used boats are cheaper now.
