Default to bring or not to bring.

I'm going to be doing some panga fishing in Cabo in a few weeks. I'd really like to take some fish on a fly. Not as a primary means, but just to get some kicks. I have a stout rod/reel capable of handling a decent fish. Just not sure if it's realistic or worth dragging it along. Any thoughts?
Having never landed Dorado and such, I would think they'd take a well-tied anchovie type streamer?? I have a ton of big striped bass stuff that I bet would interest something down there.
Thanks,
GBS

LARGE fly rod..

12+wt.

Find the fish first then cast to them, Most guys on panga's, bring the fish up to the boat with livebait, then you can start working your fly.. Think fast retreive,

yep, that's what I was thinking. once some fish are active, a long cast and quick strip should draw some strikes.

GBS,
I've always been told that white streamers are the ticket for dorado. I think that any good streamer pattern will work once they are up near the surface and excited. Definitely take your gear!

Last time we were down there, we saw some folks fly fishing
in close to the surf along the pacific side. We were fishing
with live bait and taking rooster fish. I'm not sure what they were catching. I did see some excitement over
there from time to time.....Good luck

Watched a fellow picking up a small yellowtails fly fishing from the bank. He was having a ball. I was trolling just out past him with a rapala type lure, and he outfished me 2-1.

I have seen when large YT are swimming all around my boat and would not take a live bait (makeral), iron, or lure. The YT would be chasing small silver type minnow fish. Often thought that this was the time to have a fly rod on board as back-up go-to rod.

Have a safe journey,
