Default Finding sheds

Last weekend I found a nice blacktail shed....Heavy 3-pt with eyeguard. My son scored it at around 45. Yesterday in the same area my son found a shed that looked similar in size but is a 4-pt w/eyeguard. This shed scored around 53.
Who Hoo 50 pts is the minimum for entry into the Oregon B+C book under the single shed category. But it really looks like we have a set and I think the set minimum is 100 pts. So probably not an entry as a set but for 5$, my son can get his single shed entered. About time for him as he always "lets" me find most of our sheds... These sheds look like this years so that wily older buck is maybe still in the neighborhood. Sure would like to put a tag on this guy and if we ever do...A full shoulder mount might be in the works

Cool find. Good Blacktail sheds are TOUGH to find. I found a HEAVY 5 point with eyeguards one morning near Sheridan, while watching a small clear cut during muzzloader season. It definatly gets the heart racing. You just "know" he's gonna step out for a clean shot.

he didn't that year.

There's a ridge in an area I elk hunt in that is always loaded with blacktail sheds. One year alone we found 18 sheds! Some real toads, too. Someday I'll remember to save my buck tag for the late archery season and head in there.

Yep, the name of that ridge seems to elude me right now.

Its a perfect spot for blacktails in the spring. Its near a huge area of wilderness, gets lots of sun(south slope), and has lots of reprod near it. I know there's usually some deer on it during the season but I have a feeling its nothing special until its wintering time.

The area we found these sheds on has produced numerous other sheds over the years, mostly elk.
My son was riding his mountain bke up there this summer and saw a big buck that had recently lost his antlers. He said the distance between the two raw spots was quite large...6" or better. We have found several fresh buck rubs and seen 2 smaller bucks in this area this hunting season. Can only hope to get a shot at a bigger buck as the rut nears

The Washington Big game rule states that "it is legal to possess naturally shed antlers of deer or elk."

Say, on this subject, there was (as I recall) a huge thread some time back regarding the legality of taking and keeping sheads. Without getting deeply into all of that again, can someone recall briefly if a conclusion was reached and whether it is legal of not. Thanks. Don

My understanding is that natural sheds are ok to pick up. But if the antlers are attached to a skull cap, they are not legal to posess. A B + C scorer told me this when my elk shed was being scored for the Oregon record book.
