Got my "fuzz mount" back
When I got my Mulie buck I wanted to do smoething with it, but not a shoulder mount. It was in the fuzz. I wanted to keep the fuzz.
So I decided on a european mount with artificial velvet.
Here's how it turned out.
Oh Yah,
Here's the original.
The fuzz is a little "fuzzier" than the original. But it looks pretty cool. It's synthetic, so it should last. Not cheap though. The fuzz treatment adds like $250 to the mount. But I wanted something that would last.

Looks good, nice buck. What do they use as artificial fuzz?

Re: Got my "fuzz mount" back
The taxidermist send it out to a place that applies the artificial fuzz. I dunno what it is. But it's very durable and supposed to last forever.

Re: Got my "fuzz mount" back
That is cool! I always wondered what people do when they get a nice buck like that in velvet. You almost have to have it mounted, but I figured the velvet wouldn't have a chance. I've never had that problem.

Re: Got my "fuzz mount" back
The fuzz WILL last.
But, you can also us horn injection fluid that preserves the actual velvet. Don't touch the antlers until they are injected and dried or the velvet wil just fall off.
Nice Bruce!

I was wathing a show last night that said you can have the horns freeze dried with the Velvet on it and that it will last. rp

Re: Got my "fuzz mount" back
That looks way cool! I had a Caribou in velvet freeze dried (1993) and it still looks and feels like it did the day I harvested it.

Funny thing Daryl, when I told Karen I was on the way to get it she asked where I was gonna put it
She said it wasn't as grose as she thought it would be. I dunno.
I might have been able to do a different treatment on the velvet if it had come home in better shape. But we drug it a long ways (by the horns). And there was no place to keep the head cool between the locker in Lakeview and the taxidermist's a day and a half later. It was starting to get loose.
I hadn't seen this treatment before. That's why I thought I'd share it.

Re: Got my "fuzz mount" back
I wonder if that "fuzzy" stuff will work for us lads that are topknot challenged?
You need one of the walnut pedastel's to mount it on, then you could display it on your dining room table!
Lookin' good GRB!

When Rick called and told me it was ready, he said it was the opposite of my head...smooth on the bottom and fuzzy on top.
Anywhere's indoors will be good for me there "stumpy"
