Well, some of you may know that when you fly from SF, or LAX to the fareast,, you don't just head West out across the ocean in a straight line. You fly in a northern arc just below the Aleutian Islands and come down the Russian coast line. Often you can see the fishing fleets working out in the ocean.
Well, my flight yesterday was a real treat. We flew norht for a long time, after being in the air 90 minutes I look down and we are still over land.. and I think hey that river looks familiar.. Sure enough we flew over all the coast rivers; I recognized the Siletz, Tucca, Trask, Wilson etc.. all the way to Astoria.. So i know where all your honey holes are now guys.
Visibility was great, and I could see the trailer park on the Wilson river below the guide shop, Marie's, Jen's bird feeders

, and the gob of eggs Grant was loading on a 7/0 owner cutting point, as well as other small land marks out of the window of the 747 !
We then proceeded over the mouth of the columbia river, looking down at Hammond, Megler Br. and the other ramps was really cool. We continued on up the Olympic Penninsula and finally at the tip of the mountains we banked left and headed up the inside passage all the way to Prince Rupert, Juneau AK and over Anchorage AK. We got to see Mt. McKinley on a flight to Shanghai!
We crossed the Bering sea over to Russia well north of the Aleutian Islands, and then down the Russian coast to Shangahi... never before in my trip over have we gone so far north.. Very cool and we were over land probably 60% of the time.
Must have been a strong head wind we were getting around ?
