Default Deer hunters - reports?

Lets use this thread for everyone to post their deer hunting reports.

We had zero success in our camp this year. We had seven tags in camp at one time, and nobody harvested a buck.

I saw one buck on Friday evening (before opening day) that looked to be a smallish forked horn.

We hunted Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues and a quick morning hunt on Weds before heading home.

I personally only saw one legal buck while hunting and it was a small spike, which I wasn't interested in.

We hunted the Paulina unit.

Steeliehunter, I took a drive on Tuesday but couldn't find your camp. I did find one camp in the area that had a paper plate hung with the name "Bradley" on it. Maybe you had already headed home by then?

Okay, let's hear your reports.

Mike

Hunted Desolation with two other guys for 4 days. We had plenty of opportunity for forks and small 3pts on the first two days, but passed for what we thought would be some decent racks here or there. After seeing the same 'ol in all the camps, I finally took a fork Sun. night that was an easy drag. By Tuesday, pressure on the animals was down and niether of the other guys could find a buck. 1 for 3, but 7-8 passes between us.

Hunted saddle mountain. Son saw a buck and several does. I got a coyote and found a nice 3-pt. blacktail shed. This was sat, day 1. On day 2 son saw a bull, 8 cows and 3 does, I stayed home and did chores. Met a hunter sat. who had seen 3 bulls and 3 does day 1. All within a mile of my house

Hunted extreme SE corner of Ochoco unit, near Rager. Four tags in camp, hunted 3.5 days each. One shot fired at a running coyote. One buck sighted, & a few scattered does. My son did a census of about 25 camps on Sunday evening and again Monday afternoon. NO deer hanging. Weather was warm, considerable local rain from a thunderstorm on, I think, Sunday; but things were crunchy again by Monday afternoon. Nevertheless, good times had by all.

I killed a 5x5 on Monday morning. He was 21" wide with fairly heavy horns. My son missed a PIG on Saturday morning. All I can say for sure is that he was much larger than the one I killed. :depressed:

I saw a total of eight bucks with just the two being worth getting excited over.

I wish we had just one real good Mule Deer unit to hunt even if it took many years in between to draw.

A good friend has hunted Trout Creek twice and that doesn't seem to be worth the wait.

Hunted sat, Sun, and mon am in Paulina unit.

To be kind, it sucked.

I saw 1 deer in 3 days.

In normal years, we see between 8-12 deer a day. Every day of season.

Dad stayed in La Pine. He drove up and down hwy 31 Friday, Sat, and Sun in the dark . There were no deer. Anywhere. Normally you have to slow down for 20 deer in 20 miles.

They simply were not there. Someone in the Paulina unit must have murdered them. I doubt they just up and moved.

Great food.

Good Company.

Good times.

Dawn has not killed a buck yet.... The saga continues.

Mark and the antlerless dog.

Passed on a small spike Sunday evening. All the rest I saw were flatheads.

We hunted the Chesnimus unit this past week. We came home 5 for 9 with one nice 4-point, 3-forkenhorns, and 1-spike. My 13 year old boy got the spike. There were quite a few small bucks, with only two of us not having the opportunity to shoot or make the decision not to harvest. Two guys missed, one gal was really crippled up with a bad back, and I didn't see anything. I hunted clear down the breaks of Joseph creek, and still didn't see a buck. I did see a beautiful brown colored bear and her cub. Weather was just too hot.

Drove thru downtown Fossil a few days ago. Must have flushed at least 20 deer out of the city park and out of people's yards just by passing thru at 15 mph.
I don't know what unit that is, but if you're hunting around there, that's where the deer are.

Hunted 5 days in Eastern Ore 4 tags in camp and 4 for 4 2 4 pts, large fork and the winner of the small buck contest by one of the guys Spike with 5 inches total of both horns Won him some nice binocs and a pd of Jerky. We saw about 40 bucks on private ground and about 15 in the woods. More people would score if they got out of the rig once in awhile
