Default North Carolina Bird Hunting (Anybody?)

I may have an opportunity to go to NC for work in November. Does anyone have any suggestions for waterfowl or upland hunting near Halifax (something that won't break the bank too badly)?

Thx,

ors

ORS - I can give you some general ideas here. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune '98-'01, and although I was to busy to get much hunting in, I can give you a few pointers.

If you are chasing waterfowl, then check into the Swanquarter & Mattamusket N.W.Rs which are southeast of Halifax along the sound. Big areas. Swanquarter - I believe - is a free-roam along the sound and the Mattamusket is more managed. There are a lot of clubs and guide services that work around Mattamusket as well. That would probably be you best bet.
- there is also an area up around the NC/VA border (around Elizabeth City I believe) that I had heard good things about, but never got a chance to look into?

Upland. Never had a chance to chase them, but quail and dove seemed to be the best native bets around farmlands. Access would be the issue there.

Hope this helps.

I never bird hunted there, but I deer hunted Halifax county for four years while I was in college. Over near the state prison. There are so many deer there it's not funny! If you can't bird hunt, maybe try fishing the roanoke river....good luck and have fun.
