Default Deer Success Northside Unit

Someone on another post said they hadn't been hearing about any success stories. Well my cousin just called me and they were just northeast of John Day in the Northside unit. They went 5 for 5. The whole party tagged out. A spike on the opener. On Sunday they had another spike, forked, and a three point and added another fork on Monday. Still pretty dry out there, no rain yet. Good luck to everyone. I'll try to get some pics added later.

Your friends must have got lucky! Just returned from north side today and I have never been more disappointed. I have hunted that unit since the 70s and I would rate it as poor. 7 hunters that put on miles cross country and only 2 bucks sighted. I have a 30" buck that is 9*11 to prove what was once a great unit.

That's what I thought so I didn't go with them. Boy did I screw up. They also missed a four point and another fork. Mt. Emily unit used to be great for elk but with that poaching ring they busted a few years back it's fallen down as well.

I saw 3 camps with most of the bucks near the rager station. But there where miles of area with know deer in them. Talk with the locals and they all say the cougars are thick. what fawns that where born fell quick to the cats. With that and poor woods conditions it will be soom time before we see a healthy system again.
