Default Happy B-day fish-n-fever (pic)

Jan 4th is my dads 50th Birthday <aka fish-n-fever> and I just wanted to wish him all the best! We have had some really great days together out on the rivers and plan to have many more!

One great one that comes to mind that I will never forget was Dec. 6th 1998. This was the first season we both fished for Salmon/Steelhead in freshwater together. We fished from daylight until about 10:30am without a bite. My dad got bored and decided to put on some eggs and let them sit in a small back eddie. It was about 15 mins later and he decided to reel up as we were going to move down river. He stated reeling and felt something odd on his line. He pulled harder and out of the water came the head of a CHROME BRIGHT Chinook! He fought this fish hard for quite some time on steelhead gear. Down river, up river, and finally it got tired enough to net. 27# of chrome buck! His first ever freshwater Salmon! We went down to have a pic taken of it and people were looking and staring. They said the run was pretty much over for Chinook and we were very lucky. After the pic was taken we headed back up river and were about to head home when I decided I wanted to fish just a little longer. Back to the same hole we went and at about 2:00 I hooked into a very nice fish also. This fish didnt really fight but just pulled with steady pressure so I horsed it hard until it was about 10 feet from me when it came to life. It started shaking its head and going crazy but never jumped. I got it all the way into the bank when it decided it was ready to jump and it jumped on the bank right at my feet. We plopped the net down on it before it could get back to the water. It was my first winter steelhead, a 14# chrome winter buck. Two firsts in one trip. That was it for the day but the memories will last a lifetime.

I will try and post a pic of the fish later.

Happy Birthday dad!

Jon

Enjoy the times with your dad while you still can. I really miss my dad, we fished and hunted together all the time. He has since passed and I sure wish I could do it with him again. Happy birthday to your dad and many more.

Yea its great to fish with your dad I started fishing with him at 3 days old and had nearly 30 years of enjoyment. Be sure and take your son also so he can have those memories. As I lost my son and fishing partner 4 years ago.

Master Caster - It is great to hear you talk about your fishing adventures with your dad. I can assure you, that his memories are as strong as yours. I have two adult sons who have fished with me/or I have fished with them for over 35 years now. Each year it only gets better

Again HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Oh ya, I almost forgot, I hit 66 yesterday and still going strong. Heading to the East Cape Baja Mexico in May for two weeks; my oldest son will met me there the second week Marlin, dorado, tuna, sailfish, and wahoo LOOK OUT
