A couple of things that have happened to me in the last couple of days have made me stop and think what makes a good friend?
This will be kind of a sappy post but I felt it important for me to sit down and type it.
What is a
GOOD friend ? I ran this question through my noggin over the last 72 hours. Is it someone that you can trust with your life? Is it someone who you can depend on when things get tough ? Is it that person that comes through when all others have failed you? Probably all of the above.
Heres the story....... My wife and I are doing a fairly extensive kitchen and family room remodel. To get the most out of our hard earned dollars I made a decision to be the general contractor and sub some of the work out. One of the jobs that needed to be subbed was the drywall portion. I put a call out on ifish looking for sheet rockers and had a few responses, some contacts and some advice. One fellow ifisher that I had met a couple of years back gave me a call and turned me on to a guy whO we thought would be a perfect match.
Well after getting into the project and lining everything out so the contractors would be coming in for their portion of the remodel we got to the sheet rocker who was recommended and the guy flaked out. Well it's easy to say that we can just go hire another one, but the electrician is going to be here in four days, the cabinets installed in six and the hardwood floors in ten. One let down will set things back and the domino effect will take place. Besides all the other sheet rockers are working 30 to 45 days out.
Heres where the story matches it's title. I called the fellow ifisher who had originally recommended the dry waller to see if he could help get this guy off the dime in a moment of crisis. Well he did. He and his oldest son showed up at my house mid week to help me hang drywall and proceeded to show up the following night and spent the entire day Saturday helping me out of a jam. This wasn't expected but appreciated.
At this point let me go back a couple of years and explain how we met. It was as simple as a response to an open seat. I had posted an open seat to someone who had never landed a springer. I wanted to get someone into a fish. I got a response, a trip was set up and a new springer veteran was on the water the following weekend. I enjoyed myself so much that day with a new found fishing partner that we set up the task of catching a "first ever" Tillamook Bay Chinook a few months later. Keep in mind that it was the second week of November and we were the only boat on the bay but a Tillamook Bay novice was now hooked and had landed the first of many fish yet to come. With a couple fishing trips together and an occasional correspondence through ifish we managed to keep in touch over the past year. This guy proved to be someone who I could contact if I had a question in regard to a plethra of questions. They ranged from high school wrestling to raising beef.
Fast forward to this week and very unexpectantly my friend and his son come to the rescue and we knocked out the dry wall project in a couple of days. Not only was this a sacrifice on his time during his off work hours but a sacrifice on his body. If he was only half as sore as I was Sunday morning from hanging rock all day Saturday, he needed some back medication, a shot of Old Number 7, and a massage.
After this long winded post you ask who this ifisher is who I consider a very
GOOD FRIEND ?
Thank you
Woody
.
Your generosity and willingness to help me out in a jam will never be forgotten. If I can ever repay the favor please don't hesitate to ask.
