Default Waiting period for hand guns

I am just courious,

I got to work this morning and our accountant informed me the she just bought a 9mm this Sat. and went shooting with it. I asked about the waiting period and she sad that there wasn't one. she went in , signed the paperwork they called the feds and she left with the pistol. I thought there was a mandatory 5 day wait, I haven't been in the loop on the new laws but this didn't seem right to what I thought I thought I knew about the regulations.

Yup. Instant check is everywhere in Oregon.

About the only thing you will have to wait for is if you are buying a pistol in Oregon and you live in Washington, you have to get it shipped to your local gun dealer.

Or if you are buying a a used gun over the counter and the gun itself has not cleared serial number search. My buddy bought a used gun from the gun broker and had to wait a few days until it cleared its background check.

I will give you a little hint. If you go to buy a gun and they call in to the feds; if they tell you they are just waiting to get the computers up and running, you better start runnin' cause they are commin' .

There is no state requirement that there be a waiting period for gun sales beyond the "instant check" in federal law, I believe.

Another possible way she did it was through the paper or from someone who is a non dealer. I know lots of people who buy them from the nickel ads. No wait, no check. kinda scarry.
