Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
Got word from a buddy that his nephew shot a bear on Saturday that weighed 370 pounds. Then another buddy shot a 290 pounder from his tree stand last evening. Same general area. Sounds like the bear are coming back. I am waiting for the pics, and will post when they get here.

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
I know of a handfull from the S.Coast that have been over 400 so I'm sure the record is pushing 500. The largest one I've ever seen a picture of is in the Riley Store near Burns. There's a picture of one in the bed of what looks like to be a full size truck and it takes up the entire bed!! Absolutely huge. But it didn't have the official weight on that puppy. Show some pics of the bruin!! I just got mine back from the taxidermist this weekend and looks great. Got some heckling from the wife though over the price. Oh well, she'll get over it.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">....thing is they they never left.
But now with the support of the anti-hunting groups (Measure 18) there are even more........
This is the lowest calf survival year on record for a number of units in NE Oregon (Weneha .. etc). Many of the calves don't make it 2 days according to the biologists in Enterprise. The bears are learning the ropes for veal. Saw near 0 calves this year in that unit.

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
I think (if memory serves me right) that they killed one down in Klamath Falls area years ago that went over 650 pounds! I will try and find info, but I believe it is true

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
Any of you guys have any suggestions for hunting bear right now. I have a Deer tag for Grizzly and tat hunt ends at the end of this week. I would love to go out for bear and see if I can pull anything. I have seen a few over in grizzly, but those were three years ago on the same trip. I like the SW but I am thinking something more around the NW region. I see a lot of sign around here but I have never been able to spot one and would like to know a good area where I have a better chance of seeing one.
I went spring bear and saw three but never got a shot and turned down one that looked to be about a two yr old. I figured I would come back in a year or two and take that one.
Either give me a call 503-313-3481 or e-mail me if you don't want to post the general area on the board. Thanks

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
I spent hours sitting on a spot before getting mine. And I mean hours. Be patient and glass. You would be amazed at how close one can get and you'll never know if you aren't looking thru your binoculars. Good luck.

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
No kidding, Rockn'reel. I, too, would love to put some fresh bear meat into the freezer. I love the taste of bear meat when it has been handled in the field properly.
I mostly hunt the NW Coast of Oregon, any and all tips would be greatly appreciated. Anyone willing to team up for a hunt and split the meat? Most of the people I regularly hunt with won't go for bear so dragging it out alone is not something I am looking forward to.

Hey kevin, I didn't get my bear tag this year but will apply for a spring tag. Looking to expand my hunting horizons and would love to have someone to show me the ropes of bear hunting.

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
Crayfin, You are probaly refering to a grizzly known as Reel-Foot killed in that area in 1890. I remembered watching a piece on TV on that bear. Giant of a bear, he was stuffed and was on exibition in SF, but was burned up in a fire. Here is more http://www.nwbiggame.com/buzz/cal-gr...l-grizzly.html

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
I know a kid who killed a 420# boar near Lookingglass 4 or 5 years ago.

Re: Whats the biggest bear killed in Oregon
Fall 1987, Jefferson County, east side of the crest I took a blackie that was 450#, plus or minus about 10# - it was hard to weigh. The year prior, similar locale, I was the backup gun, and put the final shots into a boar that was 360#. I wouldn't do it again though, and now prefer to leave them alone. Although I always do enjoy seeing and watching them.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Sounds good. I always get a bear tag. Seems like if you get a tag you never see them. Without a tag they are every where.
Teaming up in the Spring sounds like fun.
