Ducks In Sauvie North Unit
Does anyone hunt this unit? I've been meaning to check it out. Any info or advice out there?

I've hunted it a bunch, but I always boat in. Never hiked it. I wait until later in the year when the water's up.

Catch 22,
I've been hunting the north unit for several years and a good day is 3 or 4 ducks.
Rain, wind, high tide, and late season ducks can be ok. With this combination you may get a few.. If the conditions aren't nasty the ducks will not work the north unit.

I've hunted it, but it's always a "last resort". It's never really been that great of hunting, although some of the lakes you have to walk farther to have produced at times. If you have somewhere else to hunt, hunt that, if you don't, go to the North Unit.

Re: Ducks In Sauvie North Unit
Thanks for the info! That's what I was afraid of. Seemed to good to be true. If anyone wants to fill me in on a secret pond or anything my phone # is 503-679-6962. I just don't want to spend the night in my truck to duck hunt at the East unit of Sauvies. Seems crazy!

Re: Ducks In Sauvie North Unit
you can always take your chances with the lottery system on the west side of SI. they draw chips at 1.5 hours before shoot time and then call people in by their chip number. just don't be late...if you are even 1 minute late you don't get to draw and you have to take what is left over.....or hightail it back to the east side and get in line again.

Re: Ducks In Sauvie North Unit
Mossberg hit it right on. That's the ONLY way to hunt Sauvie's public land. Go Westside, take your chances there, if you don't draw well, head over to the East and take what's left or put your name on the list. If you put your name on the list you can then go hit the North Unit, but I prefer to hit The Decoy for some breakfast.

Re: Ducks In Sauvie North Unit
Don't forget you can work the reservation system on the eastside. That's the best way to do it.
I used to like spending the night out there, but not since they went PC and cracked down on "camping". There was many a night spent telling lies around a campfire while in line. Not to mention many a night with no sleep, and many a morning with a vicious hangover. I tell ya, shotguns and throbbing heads don't mix.
