Re: What animal do you think this is
Definately not a bear...the bones above the eye socket don't come out that far in a bear...plus...3.5 inches in length.

Re: What animal do you think this is
from the size stated and the mature size of teeth I would have to guess bobcat or maybe a big racoon?

Re: What animal do you think this is
Here is what I have ruled out...
Bear
Fox
Coyote or any other dog
Coon
It would help me if you showed some closer up shots, one of the jaw so I could see the dental formula (how many incisors, molar, premolar etc), and one of a direct side angle...and I appreciate the size measurements on the skull.
So far my guess is a BOBCAT!!!.
I will keep going through my skull collection to narrow down the field.

Re: What animal do you think this is
Ok...the jaw you are showing is the upper jaw...I know this because of the nose hole.
Is it possible that this is two different skulls? If you are sure they are from the same animal you should be able to fit them together a bit better than shown in the pic.

It is characteristic of cats to have proportionally large eye sockets.
I measured a bobcat skull in my collection.
Height 2.25 in
Length 3.75 inches
Width 2.5 inches
Seems to be pretty close. After futher investigation, I am 95% sure it is the near complete upper jaw of a bobcat. The clincher..to make it 99.9 would be a picture of the two pieces place together correctly!

A very large Mouse !!!
Actually, I also agree with the bobcat. We found one a couple of years back that looked closed to that. My nephew has it now so I couldn't look to be sure.

Re: What animal do you think this is
Seal skulls look quite a bit like dog skulls but much larger. Think of a 800 lb water dog :0 Cats have those proportionally large canine teeth and large eyes. The skull is also delicate, a seal or other marine creature would have thick, robust bone.

I found a scull like that one around heron lakes golf course years ago. My memory was a little couldy that night but I think we concluded it was a bobcat.
Cool find.

Looks like an opossum to me. By the looks of the eye sockets it is a night creature.

I'm thinking you may be right, possums have some nasty looking teeth. Who has the skull to match it with?

It could have been a fluke. some people have large brain cases too. I am sticking with it being a possum.

Re: What animal do you think this is
After looking more at the pics, it looks like you have 2 upper jaws there. Try flipping the smaller piece over and setting it beside the other. I say this because the back molars are back into the skulls eye socket area. what animal has teeth in their eyes.

Re: What animal do you think this is
That animal is a feral cat. Both of your pieces come from the the upper part of the skull.
Short rotstrum, large occipital cavity and a dentition pattern on the top = felid. The skull is less than 100 mm (4") long so that suggests it is a feral cat. However, what really seals the deal is the tiny peg like tooth between the canine and the 1st cheek tooth. Bobcats don't have them.
No doubt about it, that animal is a FERAL CAT.
PM me and I'll let you know where to send those $5 Acuta.
