Default Broadhead for elk?

I used innerlock 125 early season but now that I have seen theses new broadheads or at least they are new to me I am thinking about using them for late season, I saw them on the on the outdoor channel "chasing a Dream", they did a segment on them. It looks to be a great broadhead what do you guys think check out the web sight.

I've seen those advertised, and at first glance, I though "what a great concept". Nothing like seeing daylight through your critter on a passthrough. Then I thought about a little bit more.

What would you hope to accomplish with them that any of the top-name broadheads already accomplish?

I don't think you'd get the penetration of a standard broadhead. Just too much edge there. A typical broadhead's edge is tapered. That ring would have to kill your kinetic energy, ESPECIALLY if you caught a rib.

I think they'd be a bear to tune. You'd have to run 6" vanes or better to steer against all the surface tension.

You couldn't keep them sharp. Not as sharp as they need to be to hunt with.

I hate to sound so negative, but I will virtually guarantee that those broadheads will be unheard of in a couple years.

I wouldn't mind using one on a gimme 20yard shot though...

Looks gimicky to me but I havent seen them personally. For years I used rocky mountain razor 125's. Good steel, pretty solid design. This year I went to G5 Montec 100 grains and they shot great. I really like them because they are one piece, and they are resharpenable. Broadheads with lots of interlocking parts scare me.

I would not recommend changing broadheads this late in the game. Wait until next year and stick with what is shooting good for you now. If you hit an elk with your innerlock you will have a pretty good hole to play with.

I wonder if they are still capable of passing through the animal. Seems like too much surface area for that. And I don't care how big of a hole it leaves, one hole is not going to bleed like two holes. Still, would be interesting to know more about them...

IMO: I would not use those on elk. If you hit a rib with that ring I'll bet it whould stop it. With my 75LB bow and 1 1/4" three blade broad heads, I've never had an pass through or an elk go more than 70 yds with a lung shot. Elk ribs are thick and take a lot of energy to penatrate. That ring creats a bunch more surface area. I would guess it creates around 50% more friction than a standard broadhead.

They showed tested it on the tv show shot a thunderhead into a foam target and then the razorring and the thunderhead was an inch deeper than the other, they were both 100 grain on the show. Hey I might try them next year and report back on how they work, who knows they might be the next big thing in bow hunting

I use Modoc two blade. The blades are longer than anything else I have seen on the market. They are made of spring steel. I had a pass through on a Idaho bear. Critter ran 30 ft. and did his dieing at that spot. I also have G5 Montec in my quiver. I really like the one piece design.

Ben Pearson tried a similar thing years ago with their Serpentine broadhead. Now they are good collectors items.

This thing looks like Questionable tuning and most definately a Kinetic energy stopper.....

I'll stick to my 2 blade Magnus and/or Zwickeys. Passed through every elk I've killed ... with my 62# recurve no less.
