BTW, my wife, who is a good shot (shoots competitively and also got her first muley buck last year) is not sure about shotgunning. How did you get your wife started with a scattergun? Or, better yet, maybe she'd like to tell the story for the other girls out there who are curious but haven't made the leap. <hint, hint>

Get her a nice 20ga O/U to shoot. Even if she doesn't take up bird hunting you'll still have the gun. I'm off to Hepner in a few minutes for deer :smile:

Does she like hiking ?
Does she enjoy watching the dogs have fun ?
Does she like to have you clean & cook the birds (hint) ?
Is she a died in the wool Republican ?

I've got a pic with her two salmon but she won't let me post it (something about looking fat)... so much for me as a professional photographer.

Yes to all of the above (I don't know about #4 - we tend to not talk politics much). She loves to watch the dog work and even accompanies me duck hunting, oftentimes working her way around a channel to spook them up off the water so Mattie and I can do our work. But she's still reticent to pick up a shotgun.

Keta, I almost did that very thing, figuring I'd at least end up with a 20ga for doves and quail, but I don't like to do it that way. I've had more success letting her decide to join me, then get a gun that she picks out and feels good about. Otherwise it's just "my" gun that I'm loaning her.

As an example, she *loves* her Mod 70, saying over and over she can't believe she would be soooo comfortable with a high-power rifle. You ought to see her in the coyote blind. She's awesome! And that deer hunt last year still makes my heart pound.
