Default Bow Hunting on the Wing

I watched Tred Barta make the usual ass of himself bow hunting for pointed pheasant this week and was wondering if any ifishers have ever tried this. I was thinking about giving it a shot for giggles and [petunias!] and wanted to know if anyone has any tips. Thanks.

Killed one rock dove with my compound.....missed several geese last year and lost several arrows.

Just had three Flu-Flu arrows made a month ago. I've shot them at ten or so Rock Doves and missed every time, but I am getting closer.

My plan is one Western Goose this year and one Drake mallard. Will post pics when it happens!!

shooting a grouse with a bow is easy. This is most often a bow hunters first kill. getting one in the air now that would be impressive but not nearly impossiable.

I have tried without success, but have gotten a few geese off the ground. I did have a memorable bowhunting goose hunt a few years ago.

I was bowhunting for deer off the willamete river, as I had a willamete unit archery tag. We happened upon a flock of honkers and it was September goose season so we tried a stalk. There was a huge domestic goose in the flock that I wanted to shoot (huge like 25#). I tried to head shoot it with a judo point at around 15-20 yards and ended up hitting it in the neck. The arrow penetrated about halfway and the goose swam to the opposite shore and ran into a blackberry thicket with my arrow sticking out either side of its neck. I dropped my bow, jumped thigh deep into the water and chased it into the blackberries and got by far the worst beating of my life. First it bit me a few times while I was trying to reach trough the blackberries to grab it. The neck was so thick that I wasn't able to ring it or break it at all. The goose was just basically unloading on me with its wings and feet, plus the blackberries scratcing my hands and face. I finally pulled it out of the thicket, found a big river rock and bonked it like you would a salmon, about ten times. I wish I had a picture of the sequence of events, as it was truly a battle.

OregonO.

I love that story...anybody who has battled a dometic goose before (and I have) can appreciate your description of what happened.

oregonoutdoors, I have to say that is one of the funniest stories Ive ever heard. I was turkey hunting once and my buddy had the same problem you did about ringing the neck. It was quite the battle indeed and I have a little taste of what you had going on with that goose.
