Tempur-pedic... used?
Is there any reason not to buy a tempur pedic, used?
I am looking on Craigs list. I have found some, but I worry about what could be wrong with them.
I'd buy a new one if I had the money...
Anyhow, are they worth the investment?
I wake up every morning with really sore shoulders and neck.
Someone told me that it helped them so much. Is it true, or am I just chasing dreams, so to speak?

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
Also, what about ones that are like it? Costco brand, etc? Not just the topper, but the real deal mattress?

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
I dunno, never heard one way or the other, one thing about used materesses is ya never know who or what has been on them. I have neck and back problems while trying to sleep sometimes and have been thinking of trying that "memory foam" I think it is called, costco has some I believe. Heard its pretty comfy but sleeps warm

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
Jennie, all you need is one of the 2 inch thick memory foam mattress covers, they're about 190 for a king mattress, as I researched and found that all but the top two or three inches of a tempurpedic are dense hard foam and the top is the soft stuff. I bought one of these for each of the family and everyone loves them. just google memory foam, here's one for just $135. Enjoy!

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
I bought the one at Costco and in my opinion it sucks. I have slept on a full fledge Tempurpedic bed and it is the stuff dreams are made of The 2inch foam pad just doesn't cut it, it does keep the bed warmer though. Oh yeah, the Costco memory foam pillow isn't that great also. Try the one that Tempurpedic makes and then try the one at Costco, big difference.

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
I have a 3 inch thick foam pad, but if your current mattress sags, so does the foam.
I don't think it's da bomb.

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
I bought one off of craigslist. I am extremely happy with it. It makes for an incredible nights sleep. I'll tell you that I paid about a quarter of what a new one would cost. My wife has/had chronic back and shoulder pain and the reoocurrence of her symptoms has all but disappeared.
The interesting story is that we showed up to pick it up and there was Art Alexakis from Portland's biggest rock band Everclear. He was a totally nice guy. They have a cover that is removeable and washable. We made sure to wash it as soon as we got home. I mean; it was a rockstar's bed

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
The only downside I've see with Tempurpedics is that they don't breathe well. If it's a hot night (temperature-wise that is...), then one can get uncomfortably sticky. Other than that they are incredibly supportive and comfortable! Go for it!

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
I would try to find one that was lightly used (maybe up for sale due to divorce, death, moving, etc.) I would just look at it with all the covers stripped off - really cannot hide any damage.
Compared to the other 'memory foams' I think Tempurpedic is using the densest foam.
On the plus side, if for any reason you didn't like it, you could likely re-sell it for the same price. (and looking at 'mook demographics, I'd guess there's a lot of folks there who could use one)

Re: Tempur-pedic... used?
Jennie,
You might look into this company as well. http://www.bergad.com/ I bought a mattress from them and the cost is quite a bit less than Tempurpedic. I don't think it's axactly like Tempurpedic but it's darn close.
I don't think I would buy a used mattress. Too many little critters live in mattresses and I'm ok with that as long as they are from my family.
