Default Coyotes - a great tune-up

Chasing coyotes right before hunting season is a great tune-up for the real thing, and a real kick in the pants as well. I get to scout, sneak, hide out, and watch Wiley play the game he knows so well.

I carry my gun, but rarely fire a shot this time of year. I have it along to get used to carrying it and acquiring a moving target in a variety of conditions, but it's mostly a dry-fire exercise. It's just practice, and I don't really want to be banging around in the same areas I will be hunting.

Too much fun!

Are there any local areas or are they all over east?

Thanks

Ex-Tex,

There are quite a few over here, but so many areas are populated and unsafe to hunt. Outside of Philomath and up in the Wren/Kings Valley area come to mind. I've seen lots and lots of them out there and have even had people ask me to come hunt them, but there are houses and animals everywhere. If you could pick your shooting lane then it would work, but ol' Wiley seldom lets you do that. No coyote is worth letting a round go astray.

I have a Northside deer tag this year so practicing on the east side makes sense. Besides, I love going over there so it's a win-win deal.

We tried to get some pics this time, but the camera automatically focused on sagebrush close in and the animals were all just a blur. Live and learn.
