Time stands still while in a tree stand.
Is it just me, or is it pretty agonizing to be in a tree stand for about 5 hours with no activity.
Highlight was watching a pine squirrel gather pine cones, about 20 of them. He would take the same path each time. God, how incredibly exciting. Did Have a big blue grouse walk by me at about 30 yards. Problem was my peep sight was out of alignment and when I drew back on him, all I saw was a big black, solid circle. Needless to say, I missed him , but only by about and inch. I fixed it with some makeshift serving, some very light cord attached to my compass.

Re: Time stands still while in a tree stand.
You couldnt pay me to sit on a tree stand sicne I have no patience. I would probably have better odds of killing a bull if I would or could sit still and wait for them to come to me.
But there is something about bugling at a big bull, getting him to answer, bugle back and forth telling each other how big and tough we each are, (sort of smack talking) calling each other outside for a little street rumble and then charging at him, hoping he is hot enough to come fight me for some women sounds like a lot of fun. To bad it always seems to go south before it all comes together.
I think I ran one bull off this weekend when I started beating on a tree between bugles. I dont think he thought he was big enough to thump me and left before he figured out he was around 5 times bigger than I was.
Something about getting in a bar fight and winning and then the winner getting to take all the women home sounds like a lot of fun. Then going off on your own to spend some the better part of the year, until the rut starts all over. Ahh.... to be a bull elk.

Re: Time stands still while in a tree stand.
Oh, man, so much material so little time. Somebody please jump in here, this stuff is rich!! PURE GOLD.
For you beginners at poking fun at BOE, here are some good starter lessons.
Example 1: Hey Roy, maybe with a tree stand you would be able to see over the stumps...
Example 2: yeah Roy getting 3 feet off the ground in a tree stand would be a bit scary, twice you height is a long ways to fall
Example 3: Maybe try a Stump Stand, little more fitting for you dimensions therefore making you better camoflagued.
Example... oh there are just so many ...got to go!

Re: Time stands still while in a tree stand.
I sat on a treestand for the first time this year.
Hunted it 4 days straight.
It can be long slow hunting but, if located in a good area I can see how productive one can be.
My stand was just in a bad location, which I define as a nursery area. T
his is one of those spots during
spring scouting that looks real hot, one with a whole bunch of tracks.
However, opening morning revealed the truth, does and fawns running back and forth.
Did see one cow elk on my way to the stand but nothing with horns.
Most of the activity was caused by squirrels.
Opening morning, I just knew a heard of elk was coming my way. After a few minutes of listening to a non moving sound, I realized it was just squirrels dropping pine cones from way up in the trees.
Its amazing how much noise a pine cone dropped from 50+ feet makes when it hits the ground.
The squirrels even dropped a few on a barb wire fence from time to time to wake me up.
Next year, I'll look for a trail thats hardly used and aware from pine trees.

Re: Time stands still while in a tree stand.
Are you hunting the longer blacktail season? If so, stay on the stand at the end of the season. If you got does, there will be bucks!
I love crazy buck days,,,last week of the hunt . I will be in Germany this year :depressed:

Re: Time stands still while in a tree stand.
No, I hunt over in Eastern Oregon, so does are not legal.
If does where legal, my deer tag could be filled the first day, from the ground.
