Default broken Garmin GPS mount

Yep, someone stepped on my Garmin 178c GPS/Sounder mounting bracket. You would think that a $900 unit would come with a stainless bracket and NOT plastic. Pre-planned replacement factor by the company?

Anyone recommend the best source for a replacement. Or is it just better to contact Garmin direct?

Contact Garmin, I sold marine electronics for a few years and Garmin was far and away the best of the bunch when it came to customer service and warranty and repair work, I would be willing to bet they send you a new bracket at little or no charge.

Garmin will charge full price. Don't ask me how I know. Check out ebay and some of the ebay stores.

You may want to contact Cabelas and look at the RAM mounting systems. You can adjust them to many different angles, this is great to keep the glare off the screen and the screen out of the way.

Make a new one out of flat aluminum or have a fab shop make you one.

I second make a new one out of aluminum or stainless flat bar. A few holes and two bends shouldn't be that costly.

And since I sense no recriminations, I've got an idea who that "someone" might be.... like maybe someone at your kitchen table tonight? Someone who requires that you cut their ribeye steak for them??

My only caution about a metal holder would be if it happens again, and the 178c gets damaged instead of just the bracket. Dunno the circumstances involved in the "incident"....

(No intent to steal the thread) But a Thank You is in order.... I couldn't be happier with my new folbe rodholders. They are slicker than whale poop!! Thanks eyeFISH!!
