Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
wanted to make sure the pictures worked first!!!
well this mornin was like any other I was headed out to my favorite look out where I can usually spot a nice buck or two after pressure from other areas. My plan for the see the day was to spot as much as I could and maybe connect with soemthing later in the day. I arrived later than usuall and deer had all gone to bed. I started looking and about an hour passed when I finally spotted this guy laying in the bottom just below where I am posed. It didnt take long for me to decide he was a shooter. I couldnt count points because of the stickers and he looked pretty thick. I had to go about a mile to get within shooting distance and to be honest with all the activity I didnt think he was still gonna be there. Anywho when I crawled the remaining ridge line I could instantly see him bedded down in the bottom. He hadnt noticed me and I was prone with my 7mm shooting 120 grain bullets. I measured the distance at 234 yards held right on his heart and that did the deed. He is a 5x7 if you dont count eyeguards and a 6x8 if you do. His bases our a little over 6.5 inches and is by far the heavist buck I have ever harvested. He is a heppner unit buck and I saw lots of others and private and public land!
I think I am gonna European mount him but we will see. thanks for lookin,!
sorry about the picture, I was by myself and had to set the camera up on a rock

Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
Great buck!
I'm having my velvet Mulie european mounted. They have "imitation velet" that they spray on to replace the original so it will never rot.
Good Job

Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
Verrrrry nice one! Don't you love it when a plan comes together? That looks a lot like the type of hidey-hole I found a buck in last year, at about the same time of day, by the sounds of your report.
Pictures when you are alone are always a challenge. Good job.

Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
Traks44,
Congratulations on a fine deer. Great stock and a great shot. I have a quick question for you; are you seeing a lot of mature buck still in velvet?
Thanks and congrats again,
Mark

Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
no, Atlthough he may look like he is in velvet, It's just lots of little stuff that he hasnt rubbed. The areas that look inflated because of Velvet its really just antler. When I stip the anter it will all be ok and look normal. Bucks from this area always look like this some worse than others but the antlers turn out fine after you strip them.

Re: My Eastern Oregon Muley!
That must be up above Pilot Rock. I think they have a "mutant gene pool" in the area. Seems like we always see and kill nothing but non typical racks around there. Our party has harvested 1x3, 2x3, 3x4, and multiple other oddball racked deer in the Heppner unit??? Glad your doing your part to help thin the bad gene pool.
