Will be camping at Phillips Res, stop and say hi or there is plenty of room if you want to put camp in same area. Meat poles are already up

Just got back from Sumpter from an eight day hunt. We got in to a couple herds and had a few opportunities. However, fate did us in a few times. We came home empty handed, but with some very cool stories. Some huge bulls came out of Sumpter and Granite this week as well as nearby areas. Good luck!

In Sumpter, we hunted Huckleberry and Sawmill Gulch. We also heade towards Ukiah and hunted near the John Day area and Chicken Hill. By the way, there is no "n" in Sumpter. Most of the herds we saw were in Sawmill Gulch area. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I have hunted Sumpter for 35 years and never been to that side of the Unit much. We have 4 large ranches to hunt on totaling over 300'000 acres mostly by Unity and Rye Valley. There is suppsed to be a big elk herd with many bulls by malheur Resevoir. I am only hunting deer there this year as we drew 2 moose tags for wash state so would have too much meat with an elk too.
