Default Seeking Info on Paulina Unit

Hi all,
I am hunting the Paulina Unit for the first time for Mule Deer and am hoping for some helpful information and locations to put me into some good bucks. All information appreciated. You dont have to give up any secret spots, but if you do I wont tell or complain ;-) Thanks...

There are good, reliable reports of many big bucks near the road to China Hat. Have a buddy who was hunting with his wife during the bow season over there. Said if he had a rifle he would have had one really nice wall hanger> We usually hunted around the 450 road. Off of or near the 2510 I think is the number. Going in off of the highway near Millican.

Good luck!

Livebait,

Lived in La Pine for several years. I quit rifle hunting over there due to all of the road hunters and started bowhunting. However, the area north and south of highway 31 from the 9 mile marker to the 18 mile marker always produces a lot of nice bucks. Suggest you hunt areas around brush thickets in the AM and late PM. During the rest of the day get into the thickets and still hunt as quiet and slow as you can. The bucks will head into the thickest stuff they can find after opening day.

Livebait all I can say is I love that area. Last year we took five deer all within 1/4 mile of camp. We could of got three more but the trip had to be cut short the forth day into the hunt. You have some tall timber, sage flats and some thick brush and the deer are in them all. Last year we had snow one morning and we are hoping with the later opener we will have more this year.

We will be over there hunting as well. We will be camped in the China Hat area.

I think there are a few more Ifishers also hunting this unit.

If we all weren't too far away from each other it would be cool to get together one evening for a late dinner, or some bs'ing around the campfire (if we get to have one).

Steeliehunter,

We'll be camped on the 2310 road just up from the 23 road. This is right by where the road that goes up Pine Mtn. intersects with the 23 road. There will be a motorhome and tent in camp. We'll be driving a green Toyota Tundra and a black and gray Chevy truck.
