Need Gunsmith for O/U trouble
Just picked up a nice used Beretta Silver Snipe over and under 12 ga. this weekend. I hate to dry fire guns, but when I bought it, I dry fired it just to make sure it worked and it fired twice. My father in law picked it up at home and did the same thing and it only dry fired once. I took it apart and can see a part that isn't moving out of the way like it should to allow the second hammer to drop - hopefully it's an easy fix. There doesn't appear to be anything broken, but maybe just an adjustment needs to be made. When I move the piece manually, the second barrel fires just fine. I've only had one other gun that ever had a problem and I took it to Alison & Carrie and they fixed it but it was real spendy. Has anyone ever had their over and under worked on in the Portland area? I imagine most gunsmiths are competent to fix this, but I've never had an over and under before and want to get it to a guy who knows them well if possible.
Thanks,
Joe

Before you take it to a smith-ie you might want to try fireing with shells in it. Most over and unders use recoil to set the other fireing pin.

I second this opinion. There's an internal recoil activated selector switch.

Re: Need Gunsmith for O/U trouble
Thanks, guys - I thought that might be the case and was going to take it out to Sauvies and pop off a few to see, but I distinctly remember it firing twice when I bought it. I'll give that a try and post the results here. Thanks again.

Re: Need Gunsmith for O/U trouble
I called Beretta USA and Keta and SGH - you should go to work for them
They said that indeed the silver snipe has an inertia driven hammer release for the second barrel and that it should fire twice if there are shells in it. I'm taking it out this afternoon to give it a try. Thanks for the help - I was stressing about the repair.

Hey - it's broke for good. I'll give ya $50 for the salvage value. Ditto on the advice. Shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Need Gunsmith for O/U trouble
You can test an inertia trigger by putting snap caps or FIRED hulls in the chambers, point in a safe direction, pull trigger, 1st barrel pin should drop. Pop the recoil pad on your thigh, second barrel pin should fire.
I recommend the snap caps or FIRED hulls so the pins have something to hit against.
Good Luck.
PS. I would recommend Allison and Carey, ask for Jeff. Unlike a cheap gun smith, money spent there will not be wasted. JMO.

Re: Need Gunsmith for O/U trouble
Went out and shot the gun this evening and there's nothing wrong with it. Thanks again for the tips and good advice.
