Imnaha Unit
My hunting parter who knew the area now has to work so it's just me and I've never even seen the Unit. Anyone hunted the area before?? Would love to know what to expect in terms of presure, weather, the towns nearby anything I guess.
Oh ya where do I get the big buck??

Re: Imnaha Unit
Better get in shape as it is really steep in most places. If the critter runs off the tops, you have a severe back job. Been there, done that.
McGraw lookout has had some good bucks in the past.

Re: Imnaha Unit
elkaholic isn't McGraw Lookout in the Snake River unit? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Imnaha unit is all west of the Imnaha river...
Cutthroat - There are some good areas off the sheep creek road which goes east between Joseph and Imnaha. Never hunted it for deer but have seen many there in past years.

Re: Imnaha Unit
Grew up there. It is very steep...I suggest you hunt up hill...then drag the deer downhill.
I used to get some big bucks in a canyon called Bear Gulch. It may be blocked off. You can also go to the town of Imnaha, and turn right on the road that leads to Hat Point. At the first big switchback park your rig and hunt the draws uphill to your left. Typically one side of the slope will be grass, and the other will have some timber or brush. Pay close attention to pockets of brush, and also pay close attention to little patches of brush below rimrocks. Bucks like those spots and will hold tight as long as they think they haven't been busted.

Re: Imnaha Unit
Ifishum, You may be right, I don't have a synopsis here now. I was thinking the road up dry creek and down the ridge toward hat point on the imnaha side of the road was Imnaha unit. Right side was snake on top and right going up dry creek was pine creek.
Better look it up.
Imnaha side of PO saddle has some good ground too.
Cheers

Re: Imnaha Unit
I got a synopsis today and was wrong about the area. The road I was talking about splits snake and pine creek units, not Imnaha. Sorry
I used to see deer scattered everywhere around Harl Butte, which is in the unit. Go out the highway that goes from Joseph to Ollocot campground, 30 miles up from the town. Also used to see quite a few bucks that came down for water at the river the last hour of light.
Good luck.

Re: Imnaha Unit
Mcgraw lookout is in the tip of pine creek unit,,the snake an Pine creek boundry is the Buck creek trail (south edge of 32 point creek)several 100 yards North from Mcgraw lookout..Hunted that for years. The Imnaha is on the west of the Imnaha river!

Re: Imnaha Unit
Floatin Mule is correct. Mcgraw lookout is actually in the Pine Creek unit. As your driving down road 3965 Snake unit is on one side of the road and Pine Creek is on the other. Mcgraw is on the east side of the road which is Pine Creek. P.S. Unless your Part Big horn DON'T GO THERE. (Mcgraw) It's VERY Steep And the only way out is up. I see HUGE buck's there every year But's that in November.
