Sheep Hunt (Successful)
Here's my buddies Steen's Mtn. California Bighorn. Lots of work but lots of fun also.

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
It green scored around 157. 5 1/2 years old with 15 1/8" bases but only 30" horn length. Fish and Game says very rare young sheep has good bases like his. Saw lots of rams, all bigger ones about this size. Great hunt.

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
AWESOME! What a great hunt and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I looked to find a definition of a full curl but couldn't find one. Coould you please clarify what a full curl is? Is this ram considered to have a full curl?
Thanks for the info, and GOOD JOB!

Tailchaser - this is when you go back and edit your post to say "it looks about 157-158, but that's just a guess..."

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
That looks to be about 3/4 curl, still aways to go before he would have made full curl.

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
A full curl would make a complete circle with the horns when looking to the side. It's actually hard to find California Rams with them because they seem to broom off (break) right around the time they have a full curl. Mostly from being old and butting heads too much. I would've guessed the ram to be older myself, but a very healthy animal and good trophy.
A friend of mine drew the Hart #1 about 5 years back and he nailed a nice 170 ram. I'm considering going to Montana or possibly down South to Arizona to hunt one. God knows I'm not banking on drawing one here in Oregon any time soon. Out of all the big game species, I want one of these on my wall the most. If that day comes I'm going to give a healthy effort also with my bow at first, and then go to a rifle. But what a rush it would be to finally bag one.

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
And yes, I misjudged that one. Must have been the lack of pictures. Kinda like that 320 bull that turns out to be a 250 one huh.

Hey Daryl,
You must've been the guy behind the camera.
Looks like the pack was down hill...looks like everything is downhill.
Cool pic.
See yah in a couple weeks!

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
Picture is really deceiving. Sheep stopped rolling on the ledge we took pictures and boned him out. 3 1/2 hours straight up to get him out but it was all worth in the end. Hardest thing was getting use to the altitude change.

Re: Sheep Hunt (Successful)
Nice ram!
I was lucky enough to get one in 01' and had a blast. The only problem is that now that I know how much fun sheep hunting is I want to go again even more. :depressed:
