Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
As of Friday 4:00p.m.,the Clackamas office of
the ODFW said they did not believe sportsman
would get another season for chinook below
Bonneville. The topic is not on any future
meeting agenda.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
The gillnetters were given 3 12 hour days this last week. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. It seems that they would have filled their quota of fish considering the numbers of fish that were in the system. This mornings Columbian reported that the compact gave them from 6AM to 6PM Monday and Wednesday downstream of the Kalama river and 8PM Monday to 1AM Tuesday and 8PM Wednesday to 1AM Thursday upstream from the Kalama river for this coming week.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
The commercial sturgeon catch was raised to 15 per boat.
Sweep it clean the week before the sport season opens.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
A friend of mine had his brother but fish for hime and asked me if I wanted any. I said no that because of my morals and my fellings I will never buy a fish from a gillnetter. He bought 4 salmon and 1 sturgeon for $2.00 per lbs. This is sick how many fish the netters are getting and we are getting screwed.
How do we get this on the ballot? Does anyone know? I have $100.00 towards this effort to start it off. Come on lets do something about it.

So, if non-tribal netters are selling fish off the docks or out of the back of their trucks, these fish aren't being counted in their catch, right? From my understanding, the catch count comes from the fish buyers. I've heard of netters keeping a few for their family or neighbors, but I'm guessing it goes way beyond that. Should we document them selling the fish privately and use that as an argument for a higher percentage of the allocation at November's meeting?

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
Beefcake,
Non-tribal commercial fisherman can sell their catch to the public if they have purchased a fish buyers license. There are a couple options for them to do this. Depending upon the license they have purchased they can sell from their boat or other vehicle. They have to fill out a fish ticket just as every other fish seller/buyer does. That is not to say illegal stuff doesn't happen. It happens in ALL fisheries, commercial or sport.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
If someone lives out in the area that fish are being sold then should the person who is selling fish have it posted or I think that a license # should be asked for. I hear there is a person on redland road selling fish can someone in the area see if he is licensed or not.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
You guys crack me up. If you want to see netting, just take a trip up north to the Skagit river. The tribes have been netting from sunday morning to friday morning for the last four weeks straight. This will probably continue into mid silver season.....or another three weeks. To be continued another two weeks for Chum salmon and then wild steelhead. Last fly over counted 97 different sets from Sedro Woolley to the mouth. The sad part is they are catching Pink salmon just for their eggs. Basically no market for the meat, so strip the eggs and toss them back. The bucks never even make it into the boat. I know what the Boldt decision says and I don't mind netting for their fair share, but what is going on makes me sick to see the waste. Why net for fish that has no market value?? You guys should be happy the commercials only get three more days in a river that is too big for them to ****. I does suck that they closed the Columbia down for Kings. Just some food for thought.....life is not so bad in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. This is why I am selling my boat.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
GREAT!! I can see the headlines now. "Ifishers sabatoge gillnet fishery" or "a conspiracy born on ifish.net lands sportfishers in jail"
Suggesting illegal activity to complicate an already heated issue is irresponsible and childish. Your suggestions are no better than spiking rocks to damage pontoon boats or spiking trees. I thought this kind of talk was against the AUP.

Re: Are the nets in Yet!!!!
If you IFishers would pay attention, you would see that there is always a small group of posters defending, or at least deflecting concern from gillnets in the Columbia every time that this issue is raised on IFish. That is what well organized political action committees do--Get a clue. As sportsfishermen, if you want to just complain go ahead but then expect the same treatment next year as this year. If you want to make a difference, we must get our financial resources and political influence effectively organized. Read the shortsheeted for chinook thread here on IFish for more information. Most importantly, as a group we need to designate a single group that sportsmen can support to reverse this situation.
