Default Open Seat East For Final Week Archery

My hunting partner is "Flaking Out' on me.
I've been off the boards for over a year, but have been lurking the last month. :lurk:
I've only bow hunted 2 years and never on the East side.
This year I set it up to go east the last week of the season. Should be prime time.
The problem is my family doesn't want me going solo. They want some one with me in case "stuff" happens.
I guess they want someone to drag my carcus back in, if I get kilt by a cougar??
Anyways I might have to change where I want to hunt if I'm solo to keep them happy.
Anyways I got "Plenty" of cash to make this work.
I'm offering up the gas & food money, so maybe someone is broke & will jump on the chance to hunt on my gas & food.
I got the Beer coverd too.
If your looking to talk to me call me @
503-957-8895 Jason
I want to leave Tuesday.
BTW- Whats your guys opinion of going solo for the week.
I was gonna go to the Blues, now might do Fort Rock & Wagontire.

Thanks,
GL2

Personaly I have hunted solo a lot. The key is how comfortable are you and experienced. If your going to Fort Rock you will not be very far from a road. Not sure about Wagontire. It is more fun with other people but it has not stopped me. Maybe you can do a cell phone check with the family every day? It gets a little boring at night around the dinner table.

good luck

I have elk hunted in the past during later seasons solo and kind of enjoyed the solitude. Make sure you can call every night, leave a note showing the area your hunting in camp every morning, make sure someone back home has maps of the area and is familiar with the hunts. I also would recommend a little more stuff in the pack just encase you get hurt and have to stay out a couple of days waiting for help.

I feel safer in the back country than at my job on the weekends by myself.

I'm not personally worried bout my skin, I got enough gear to spike camp anytime, or place.
The Wife deal is my problem, and the Maps, & cell is cool with her when I'm also with someone else. Some poeple at her work have told here the Bules are rugged, cold at night & full of big Cats. She's spooked.
I'm gonna have to make a decision, bout going solo in the Blues. I want to get an Elk and I'm not looking to be picky for the first one.
If I go Fort Rock I'll be giving up a shot at Elk to keep her happy.
The main thing is I'm ready to kill something.
I passed up a decent coastal buck cuz, I was going to the Blues. We have been on Elk coastal, and if I'd have know then what I know now I'd have tried for a cow!
I still have options at the coast.

I have had this happen cause I hunt with flakes who dont know what there doing when their doing it. Solo is fun however I can only do it for 2 -3 days, I too am relying on my brother whos sure thing private land hunt fell through yesterday. I will try and figure some think out for this weekend. When alone take your GPS and a motarola hand held. If you become injured you can give cordance from the GPS and surf the radio waves for help -a hand held CB or short wave works the best and it fits in your fanny pack. I like to tell my wife which channel I will use in case I dont come home. I used the lost senerio on my wife and got the stuff on my next birthday. GPS is fun to learn when alone.

Go to the blues- and remember befor you key your release, how tough it is to pack out a elk alone- have at min- a back pack frame a cart would be better, 4 meat bags and rope W/ block and tackle to hang quartes high @ the murder sceen, cause its gona take awhile.

I just got back from hunting a few days alone in the Silvies unit over near Burns...my problem was that I was unable to take time off the same time as my hunting partners due to projects at work that I had to take care of.

It is hard to believe that someone has not jumped on the opportunity to go hunt with everything that you are providing.

I had a great time hunting on my own...I doubt that I would feel the same if I got an elk 3 miles from the nearest road though.

Good Luck out there and don't let the paranoid ones at home keep you from having a good time.

Mike
