Default Looks Like it's a Hyde for me....

As some of you may know, I have sold the ocean boat and have been concentrating mainly on flyfishing the Umpqua and Deschutes. In all reality, the anxiety surrounding hauling a large boat to the coast when conditions were favorable only to be met with dozens of other boats, fuel expenditures and seasickness finally took it's toll. Realizing that my most memorable experiences relate to river fishing in a drift boat, in just about my backyard, and after exhaustive research into which boat is right for me, I ordered a Hyde Combo high side. Extremely versatile, she'll be here in January for winter steelhead. So, this winter come and out and join me!

Good choice! I row the same boat with the g4 hull. I highly recommend the g4. This boat rows like no other drift boat! Set your ferry angle and go. The only thing I would change would probably be a side anchor system. The center anchor allows the boat to swing hevily when anchored in an eddy.

Enjoy!

Yes, It's G4 equipped (Signature series). My biggest vacillation has been the center vs side anchor system. I may want to use an outboard occasionally but was under the impression that an offset anchor would destabilize the boat somewhat in faster current. is that not so?

Kurt,

If the side anchor sets your boat to one side put your cooler on the other side, that shouuld fix it. You will find that you are regularly asking your passengers to "center up" in this boat. It is very responsive and when two guys lean to one side the boat will want to "sail" that way. That is why it is such a great row, it goes where you point it when you want it to.

I have had both, and prefer a side anchor for two reasons. 1, no need to remove for an out board, 2, it doesn't swing as easily in rough current.

The offset will not effect the baots trim.

Must be different in a glass boat as my Koffler would swing back and forth with a side anchor. If the current was moving at all it would build up enough frequency to pull my 30 pound anchor loose.

I put it in the center with a Dierks release system and it sits dead straight in very fast water. Like I said, it must be different with a glass boat.

Havn't found any type of fishing that I enjoy more than being on the river during the fall in a driftboat. Nothing compares!!

Enjoy the new ride!

I had the same problem with my Koffler until I started leaving one of my oars in the water to act like a rudder.

I have a Koffler with a 30# side anchor and the boat is steady as long as both oars are down as rudders, same as all boats I've been in.

Morning gents - new to the board (been a lurker, finally committed).

I've got a 2001 Hyde aluminum, and love it, so nice choice. It has spent most of its live on the Lower D, however I just got back from the Henry's Fork and Madison, and it was awesome. Great boat.

OK...Cool...

I ordered it with a side anchor system, and their super dooper motor mount for the outboard. I'm thinking about the 6hp Suzuki....55# with integral fuel tank.

Well I'll be... fancy running into you here.
How about sharing a picture of that after-market decal you installed last week. There are some well-versed Deschutes fishers on this board... welcome to another one.

I believe that lilnorthfork (who we attended the Pendleton Round Up with last week) is referring to my rather decent gouge compliments of the Box Canyon stretch of the Henry's Fork.

The rivers were pretty low (especially the Madison), so the boat got a few new dings...
