Default NW Goose Permit Hunt - changes..

For those Northwest Goose Permit hunters out there, you owe it to youselves to get a copy of the new bird regs and check the reduced number of check stations available (not to mention loss of the Thursday goose day). In many instances, hunters will incure additional time and mileage to drive to the other end of some counties (Benton) in order to check their birds. It gets especially annoying if you live in the total opposite direction. It seems to me that, the state should allow a little more latitude as to where your birds will be checked  . For example allow Benton birds to be checked in Lane. I've heard it from more than one checker that they wished they had more activity - suppose it can get pretty boring at some of the stations. I think that if too many hunters get fed up with the additional driving they'll take the risk and not check their birds - or not hunt at all.
If you would like to voice your concern here is an email for ya - bradley.d.bales@state.or.us

I understand your frustration with the limited number of check stations. I hunt almost exclusively in Linn and Benton counties. But my understanding is that the funding was not available. It was even a possibility that there might not have been a NW Permit Hunt this year due to the lack of state and federal funds. Although I don't like the extra driving, I can live with it for the tremendous hunting opportunities that this program offers. As for not being able to check-out in other counties, its the only way they can be sure that the dusky quotas aren't skewed by county.

We're all lucky Brad is where he is...without his advocacy, quite right...we'd have been without any season at all...washington lost theirs to funding and fewer hunters..
Granted, I don't have to do the extra driving others might...but at least we're all in the hunt.

Bill, your right Brad does an exceptional job, not only as an advocate for the resource, but also for the people who enjoy that resource. That is rare and he should be commended at every opportunity. He could have just given up on the program. Instead he found ways to make it work.

Don't get me wrong - I've talked with Brad on a number of occasions and kudos to him for helping to keep our opportunities open - and protect the resource . So Washinton lost the whole ball game - wow!! .

I understand the funding issues and can better see the justification with keeping Dusky #s accurate. I for one would be willing to pay an extra fee to keep the program open.

I'll still play the game by the rules - I wonder how many others won't. My guess is that the same folks that don't check the dark birds will be the ones skipping the check stations all together.

Our only hope to keeping our seasons (fish & fur & fowl) is that we all try to play by the same rules.
