Default WFO Bite Down The Line

Hopefully the big albies are heading our way. Five boats out of Eureka yesterday found hogs on the chew. Seaweasel on BATC board posted 65 to 70 albies landed for fleet. They landed 17 of 36 hooked with majority over 30lbs.
Every color feather and fish traps seemed to work. Plume off Trinidad approx. 39nm out. Water was 59 to 60 degrees and numbers 41.04/ 124.53
Praying for Indian Summer and warm water.

Hope the guys are doing well. We turned back 20 miles out because we were getting beat up again. Tuesday we went 58 miles offshore of Eureka. We caught a 35 pound albacore before the wind and worsening conditions made us turn back (three boats) early. Today there were about 20 boats that went out. We were probably the smallest (17'Arima). Nearshore was fine, but the further west the worse it became, with no getting better in sight. It was overcast with patchy fog, wind 10-15 kts, and 5-6' steep-sided swells, some white-capping, at seven second intervals when we turned around. The larger boats kept going and should be doing well on the fishing (and maybe the puking for the rookies?). Long range forecast has Northern California blown out again for the next week. I think if this wind problem wasn't THE story for the year here, most everyone would have stayed home to watch football. Most boats haven't wet a line yet this year because of rotten offshore conditions and long runs. Maybe October (sigh)...

Haven't heard "WFO" in describing the bite this season anywhere but SD and Westport. Thx for the promising report..........

Crustyseamen reported from BATC had 22 fish 640 lb. yesterday. Another confirmation of WFO on cold water hogs.
