Default Closing CR to Sports Fishing & Opening to Gillnets

Hummmmm....Been gone from this State for 5 years only to return to the same ol thing. Very sad situation and it seems the sportsman just sit back and take it? It seems to me that they use to let the sportsmen fish, and give the gillnetters a season, at night, so both could co exist at the same time. Sounds like the sportsman has even lost this edge to the commercial gillnetters? Can't figure you boys out? You pay, now you should get to play!

We are a WEAK bunch all in all, we just sit back and let the netters and the state kick us in the teeth over and over again. On Sunday, and the day the Nets hit OUR river we need to be there and stay there. This is an oppurtunity to let the voters see the real issue, yet again we steal defeat from the jaws of victory!! Nobodys fault but mine.

Sportsfishers were involved in the process that resulted in the agreement to split the lower Columbia non-Indian portion of the quota. Will you be at the Compact meeting today?

I talked about this subject with gamie just the other day. Basically F&W sees the river as a 50/50 thing. 50% for sporties and 50% for netters. Netters get the early part of the run when there arent that many fish in the river. Fishermen get the peak of the run. As runs wind down netters to finish there quota. Be happy you got an extra day or 2 since Washington wanted sporties out today and they negoiated a Sat night closure.

As I have said before if u want F&W to hear ya money talks and BS walks. I am willing to throw some into the bucket when its a bucket of sporties joining together for a cause which will take sometime to all work out in our favor.

I've been giving these guys couple hundred a year for awhile. All the $ we have in boats, trucks, tackle etc., a little to a PAC is not much. Put your $ where your mouth is.

Yes, I agree... money talks.

But it would have been nice to have had some warning they were getting close to closing it down. Like a Fri-Mon restriction rather than this "oh BTW, we're closing it completely as of Sat night". I never heard anything about lower returning estimates and reduced quotas.

I am wondering how they determine the number of URBs over Bonnie? The count I see has 306K+ Adult Fall Chinook over the Dam as of yesterday, doesn't that excede the 280K they based the closing on?

It seems like they are just running a few weeks late like everything else this year. Just an observation, feel free to correct me

I haven't looked yet, but I suspect the number you're talking about is the total of URB and Tule, they're seperating the count now, I believe? Don't remember which website this is from probably FPC? So, tule's don't count.
