Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
Looks like either one of those would be fun to catch. By the way, how far upriver(Columbia)do Tule's travel? I hear a lot of talk about lower Columbia River Tule's , I just don't know how far up the Columbia they go.
Thanks

Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
The mass majority of them go to Spring Creek Hatchery, but some do go further....

Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
URB up river bright , type fall chinook salmon that spawns in Hanford reach and beyond .Prised for its fight and table fair.
Tule , Skany stinky slimy smelly Chinook spawns in lower river who's meat deteriorates second it hits fresh water. Prised for its eggs.

Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
Do the Tule's always have the more pointy, narrow snout like the two pictured above or is there some other way to distinguish them?
Thanks again,
T-man

Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
They tend to be more football shaped. Notice the top picture which I think is a good contrast for them. They tend to kind of get a hump in their shoulders and they turn bronze very quickly. Very often their meat will turn white as well.
To get the pronunciation right you say "Toolee"

Re: URB vs. Tule! fish cam
Besides the Columbia, what other places can you find Tule's?
One time I caught a fall fish in Tillamook Bay that had the huge adipose fin typical of a Tule, and that big boy tasted great!! But then again, maybe a big adipose fin does not always indicate Tule.
And you guyz need to back off talking trash about Tule's. I'll start a Tule protection/admiration society and start harassing this site.
