Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
I am curious what everyone's favorite all around camo pattern is. I am buying a new set of camo to add to my collection for this season. I have nailed it down to Cabela's new pattern, Seclusion 3-D or The New Mossy oak Break-Up pattern. What do you guy's or gal's think? I will be hunting both the East side and the west side for elk and deer. Thanks
Mark

I like Predator pattern, but Fred Bear killed every large game animal in North America without any camo.

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
I go with what I find on sale, after the season, and in my size (not a huge pile to sort through).
Got a deal on some from the GI Joes spring sale. They are by Mossy Oak
I have liked the company for years and now get a chance to actually use their product.

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
Biggest thing to look for is the quality of material. The old military BDU's of old are still the best available as far as durability. I've ordered plenty of "fancy" camo from cabelas and other retail joints and when it arrives its thin as can be and only lasts a year or two before breaking down or fading.
For the fancy stuff find some prairie ghost or predator. For the stuff that will last you 10 years(assuming you dont drink too many beers) go to a surplus store and get some old school camo. Both are good....

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
For the coast range, I like Predator green camo
or military woodland camo does well there too. My favorite all around camo is Mossy Oak Break-up, especially when hunting east of the Cascades, or in clearcuts.
I think as long as the shade is similar to your surroundings, anything will work (remember, deer and elk are color-blind).

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
I use woodland but really want to get some predator green.
I'm not in love with the realtree type stuff because I don't think it breaks up your outline quite as well as the stuff with bigger spotches of color in it like woodland and predator.
Just my opinion though. Chuck Adams was always shown in a plaid shirt, till he got real famous, now its camo.....

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
Lots of patterns out there. I like camo with some black in it. I like camo that appears darker, even for hunting east.
I know when my hunting buddy has darker camo on he is harder for me to find, so it must be true for deer/elk also

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
Anyone ever heard of Natural Gear? I read a great brochure they put out and I bought some. I think its excellent, all the paterns run up and down and when compared w/ the other brands from a distance it is amazing.. Almost all paterns appear dark from a distance. My hunting buddies swear they can't see me unless I move!!

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
Predator green, seems like I can pick out a silhoutte with the darker stuff, unless you're in dark woods.
Deer can see some colors. I assume elk are similar.

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
To prevent the camo from fading add some vinegar the first time you wash it. Not realy sure what it does but it works great.

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
I wear what's on sale.
My grandfather has killed more and bigger animals in his life than anyone i know and he's never owned a stitch of cammo. He got a big laugh out of my cousin and I when we brought home "Scent" to cover our smell back in about 84'.
He always smelled like firewood, swishersweets, and grandma's apple pie....maybe he was on to something.

Re: Favorite camo (Elk and Deer hunting)
As an avid turkey hunter, duck and goose hunter, I've become obsessed with camo. I own a camo vehicle- inside and out, and even camo furniture and drapes. I'm known as king camo to my hunting buddys. The best thing I can say is that you are only hidden until you move- no matter what "pattern" you use! I have noticed that I can see my hunting buddys a long way away when THEY wear that Break-up pattern. Too dark for my likings. Just look for the best one that matches the surroundings you hunt. Sometimes you just need to look for "a patch" that matches you!
