Default Info on BIG TV's plasma...LCD...

Getting ready to start building and my wife said I could get a big TV. I know nothing about them and am not sure what to buy LCD HDTV Plasma or??

Thinking 42" or maybe bigger so any information would be great and at least give me a place to start.

Thanks much

Paul

I only have a 36" CRT at the moment, but just going by my own experience I'd avoid the rear projection TVs. I've gone to several people's houses to watch big games etc and I don't care for the picture quality. Always seems dim and kinda fuzzy, and they take up a lot of room.
If ya got the bucks, plasma or LCD would be the way to go. Nobody seems to know what the longevity of those sets is, though. They haven't been out long enough. That's the only issue I would have, except for the possibility of burn-in.
Well, that and the fact that they're getting cheaper all the time. Buy one now for $3500 and next year it costs $1500. That's the way it goes with evolving technology, I guess.

Got a 70 Inch Grand Wega by Sony.

LCD is the way to go.

HD as well.

Run over to Magnolia Hi-fi, they will take care of you.

The information I found when I was researching indicated that DLP was the way to go. I think it's picking among several good options. As near as I can tell, plasma is a little better, for a lot more money. DLP seems to have price performance going for it, and the top rated DLP sets are rated as well as any of the options. When I looked in the stores, I couldn't see any problem with the DLP screens. HD seems pretty good on any of them. Samsung seems to be the top rated brand for picture.

We were close to getting one before the better half and I could not agree on how to deploy it, so my information is only research, not first hand experience.
