Sunday Plans, Newport.....Salmon/Hali?
A few of us are planning on taking a look tomorrow out of Newport....see if the salmon & halibut are still home. Anyone else care to join in the hunt?

I might be heading out of Depoe (or maybe even Newport) if I can convince the wife that 1 and 7 isn't as bad as it sounds.
Its a family day tomorrow, if we make it out, my 8 year old daughter is dying to bonk her first butt!

Re: Sunday Plans, Newport.....Salmon/Hali?
I usually prefer Depoe but have had 3 different indivduals tell me that there are salmon in newport towards seal rock.
I have been told head out and SW till you hit 180 ft and start trolling SW until you reach 250 ft.
I have heard that bait is working and spoons are working and spinners are working so this is where I will be.
24ft hard top trophy white with green-blue strip.
Will pick you up on 78 once I'm out.

Re: Sunday Plans, Newport.....Salmon/Hali?
Regarding the salmon....yes there had been a steady bite off Seal Rocks / Alsea. More recently however the commercial guys were getting them real good in deeper water...north end of the pile and further north, like 50 - 60 fathoms off the Otter Rock area. And looking at the recent plankton images, there is really good upwelling all over the place, everywhere from Depoe to Alsea, and out to 60/70 fathoms. So bottom line is.... I think there will be salmon opportunities in many different areas. And don't forget....we just had a low pressure system roll through...this will cause the prego salmon to head closer to the river mouths (Siletz, Salmon, Alsea, etc.)
Regarding the weather, it many very well be nicer in the afternoon tomorrow....all the weather models / forecasts are saying the same thing....swell gradually coming down from now through Monday. Tomorrow may be the perfect day to sleep in, have a nice breakfast, and leave the dock late.

Re: Sunday Plans, Newport.....Salmon/Hali?
I've been wanting to get out of the bay and tag along with some of ya'll, BUT, I think I'll wait out the swell a tiny bit more. I'm going with the rule of 6 if the conditions are improving -- almost there. The boat and I are new at this.

We will be putting the hairy eyeball on it in the morning if all else fails we will hit the siletz tidewater and see what gives there. Will be on channel 78 if we get out.

The bar was flat, it was like a dream, a real bad dream where you wake up and there's a restriction of 26 and under and the bar is nice, I mean real nice. Not many got out today.
