Raymarine C-80
I have a raymarine c-80 with gps radar and sonar/fishfinder options. The unit is about 3 months old.the fishfinder goes out intermittently and then has a no data source message that stays on the screen until it decides to work again. Some trips it works all day. Some trips it quits and restarts 3 or 4 times. My last trip it quit at 7 am and would not come back on all day.Perfect I thought take it to the shop and now they can find the problem. It is working again at the shop and they called me and said they dont know what to do.I have 92 hours on my boat and the unit has failed since day one!I am frustrated beyond belief!!What should I do??I need a FF and sounder.I hate to buy another as I have alot of money in this one.Raymarine was not helpful to the dealer so I guess I will call monday.

Re: Raymarine C-80
I also have the C80 and have had that happen but only because of something I did. If you haven’t done this already make sure that all your plugs in the back of the unit are plugged in and screwed on. Next make sure all the plugs to the DSM box are plugged in and secured. As far as you power shutting off goes how do you have your unit hooked up? Do you have a designated power line from the battery switch? If you have everything plugged in good and designated power lines form the battery switch I’m thinking that it may be the unit itself or some faulty wires.

Re: Raymarine C-80
Ive gone over the connections several times and so has the shop as its there now.Raymarine wont accept an exchange for the parts until we figure out what it is.Youd think they would be a little more helpful.

Re: Raymarine C-80
Mo Money, I agree they should be more helpful. Especially for as much as we paid for the little sucker. I would definitely be upset.
Blubeast, Why the PM? if you have an idea what is wrong I would like to know also in case I run into that problem.

Re: Raymarine C-80
Another thing to check is that the battery voltage isn't going to high or to low. If you're trolling the troller may be overcharging the battery.

Re: Raymarine C-80
Hi. First post for me.
Mo Money,
I had the exact same problem with my DSM250 on my C120 system. Sounder would function normally for about 30 minutes then would fail and would not function again unless I powered if off for about an hour. After verifying that I had all the current software revisions installed I was advised by Raymarine to send the unit in to be bench tested. They were able to duplicate the problem. Seems a component on the board is overheating and causing the unit to fail HSB communication. At the time no repair parts were available so they replaced the entire motherboard. Turn around time was 3 days not including transit time. All is well with mine now.
Here is the response from Raymarine via email tech support (BTW they were very responsive to my problem):
Bottom line, it is either the HSB connection cable between the C series and the DSM, or the DSM. You can send the unit in for evaluation through the following channels.
Returning Your Unit for Service or Repair
Package your unit in its original packaging, or in a sturdy carton. You may wish to insure your shipment for its replacement value against damage or loss. We strongly recommend shipping your unit by a traceable method. Raymarine assumes no liability for lost or damaged shipments. Send your unit to:

For warranty repairs, please include a copy of your original sales receipt, invoice, or installation contract.
For information or status on units returned for repair service, please contact the Raymarine Factory Service Center directly at 1-800-539-5539, x2118, or (603) 881-5200, x2118.

Re: Raymarine C-80
DSM300 Software upgrade 3.16 for C-Series and Pathfinder PLUS displays
Question
What is the latest software release for the DSM300 Digital Sounder Module?
Answer
The latest software release for the DSM300 is version 3.16 released in August, 2005. This software specifically addresses a potential communication problem between the DSM300 and C-Series or Pathfinder PLUS series displays. The problem presents itself with a message of NO DATA SOURCE on the display unit. Please see FAQ 1152, "No Data Source message on C-Series and Pathfinder PLUS fishfinder" for troubleshooting information.
Pathfinder PLUS owners should contact Raymarine Technical Support or your local authorized Raymarine Service Dealer for assistance in obtaining a formatted C-MAP NT software chip. You may submit a support ticket by clicking on the "Ask Raymarine" tab at the top of this page. The software chip will include instructions for performing the upgrade.
Note: The DSM300 communicates with C-Series and Pathfinder PLUS display heads using our hsb2 network protocol. E-Series displays connected to a DSM300 are not subject to this error message because they communicate using SeaTalkhs (Ethernet) rather than hsb2. While there is no harm to be done in upgrading a DSM300 connected to E-Series displays to version 3.16, there is nothing to be gained either. There are no product enhancements or fixes of any kind other than the correction to the hsb2 communication, which does not apply to E-Series.
Upgrading the DSM300 using a C-Series Display Unit
The DSM300 software can be upgraded through a connection to a C-Series display. The upgrade requires a blank CompactFlash card and a CompactFlash reader/writer. Click here to learn more about CompactFlash cards and your PC.
To complete the software upgrade you must have all of the following parts:
Any C-Series Multifunction Navigation Display (C70, C80, or C120)
DSM to C-Series Interconnect Cable
These are available in two lengths:
E65009 (3 meters)
E65016 (10 meters)
The cables are available through any Authorized Raymarine Dealer. In North America the cables can be ordered directly from Raymarine Customer Service by calling 1-800-539-5539 ext. 2333
Any size San Disk Compact Flash (CF) memory card
A Compact Flash reader/writer
A Microsoft Windows or Macintosh computer
DSM300 Software Upgrade 3.16 available for downloading by clicking here.
Upgrade Instructions:
Download the DSM300 version 3.16 Software Upgrade Package "dsm300_316.zip"
Unzip the dsm300_316.zip file to a location on your computer (i.e. your Desktop or My Documents)
Unzipping dsm300_316.zip file will reveal the following two files:
a. Autorun.dob
b. dsm300app.pkg
Using your computer and CF reader/writer, copy the two files to the root directory of you Compact Flash memory card
Power off both the C-Series display and the DSM300. Unplug the transducer from the DSM300, if connected.
Insert the CF card into the C-Series card reader. Power the display on.
From the SOFTWARE UPDATE UTILITY menu that appears, press the UPDATE REMOTE UNIT ON HSB soft key.
Within 20 seconds, power on the DSM 300.
The transfer of software begins immediately, and takes less than 45 seconds. You will see some progress indicator graphs fill as the software transfers. When they disappear, the transfer is complete.
Remove the CF card from the C-Series display and press the REBOOT soft key.
Power off the DSM300, and reconnect the transducer. Power the DSM300 back on.
The system should now display live DSM300 sonar data.
Confirming a Successful Upgrade
Beyond normal operation, successful upgrade to the DSM300 can be confirmed through the C-Series’ on-board diagnostic features.
On the C-series press MENU, and then select SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS.
Select EXTERNAL INTERFACES, then FISHFINDER.
Select DEVICES
The serial number of the DSM, and its software version (3.16) should be displayed.
Press CLEAR several times to exit the menus.

Re: Raymarine C-80
Bendman's got it - my Furuno will re-start when connectors are not tight or if I let the Battery Voltage get to low from the TR1 autopilt on the kicker running for a couple of days of fishing and my not remembering to switch batteries.

Re: Raymarine C-80
I was advised to shut off my Raymarine c 120 every time I start my engine and not doing so could damage the unit. before I was told that, I got a data lost error or something like that, now I shut it off before starting my engine. I think it has to do with the current draw for starting the engine.
Also, I had problems because one of my connections to the back of the unit was loose, my error, but I fixed it.
good luck with finding and fixing the problem.
