Default 17 days and counting

Well boys and girls it's almost time for the stick flickers to get out there and ruin an elks day. I absolutely can't wait. Where is everyone headed this year?? I'm starting the usual on the S.Coast, and then heading into the wilderness in NE Oregon 17 miles for the last 10 days of the season. I'm so eager I can't hardly stop thinking about it. I can tell it's almost here because fish seem to start loosing the interest for me and my neck seems to swell. My wife thought it would be a little excessive to put on elk scent for cologn for work to get used to the smell, so I put some on around the house. Didn't know it was that easy to get her going to a friends house!!

I'm right there with you. Can't stop thinking about the upcoming season. I hung the last of my four stands last Thursday and my friend called me on fri. night to tell me he saw a large 4#4 Blacktail standing 40 yds from it. We will see what happens, I feel pretty confident. I too will start my elk bow season along the South coast and then head East for the last ten days of the season. This year it will be the Starkey, Desolation and Ukiah units. Have a cabin centrally located between these units that we will be hunting out of. Can't wait!

GOOD HUNTIN!

The more I scout, the more 'No Entry' signs I see. Seems like a new one every week. I think it is almost time to move. For now, I am more excited about the muzzleloader antelope tag I have and heading down your way next weekend for bear. If it weren't for the antelope tag and running short on vacation, I would be heading east for elk.

I have been shooting arrows about every other night. The bow is performing pretty well right now. I am more and more ready to chase elk every day.

Headed to the Ochoccos every weekend, and will spend the entire 3rd week their.

I'm taking the first three weeks of season off . Unfortunatly my sons school starts the first week of season so we won't be able spend a week in the Eagle Cap like we had planned. With the short school year because of low budgets, I can't justify pulling him out of school for a week. Now we just need some rain so they won't shut down the woods again this year.

I usually hunt the first two weeks in the Mt Hood National Forest, then head for John Day and spend the final two weeks with my hunting partner who lives in Canyon City. He's been spotting some real good bulls in the last month.

I'm working up in Thomas Creek southeast of Stayton on the Avery Tract. They have signs up at the gate saying "closed to public entry due to fire danger". Since I'm staying near the job during the week, it looks like I'll have it all to myself.

I drove up into a high basin Tuesday night and found a fresh bull rub alongsdie the road. A big fresh track in the dirt, but no velvet. The basin is so thick with reprod, the only place to make a shot is in the road. We'll see how that progress's.

Good luck!
