FOX News: Katrina = 10,000 Dead in New Orleans
FOX news just reported current estimates are 10,000 dead in New Orleans alone.
I'm absolutely stunned.
Can this be real?!

FEMA has reserved 25,000 body bags. I don't think anyone has a basis for knowing the real scope of mortality, yet. So horrible.

Unfortunately, I believe the estimates are very possible. The Feds brought in 25,000 body bags the other day. My wife is thinking about going down there to volunteer for the Red Cross for about three weeks. I told her I would support her decision but I also told her that it would be more emotional than any other event in her life. Pictures on the television do not come close to showing the enormity of this tragedy.

I'm skeptical of News agencies when they report on "body counts." I think they tend to overestimate the numbers. I believe they sent 50,000 body bags to NY after 911. So I wouldn't base much on the number of body bags.
Anyway, I guess this is kind of a morbid subject at this time. There really isn't any way for us to know over here on the West Coast. Lets just hope they get a handle on disease as well, or that will add greatly to the dead.

On news this morning they said there was something around 360 confirmed dead, a long way from 10,000, but the water hasn't receeded enought to really know.
One morbid thing they reported. The pumps were getting blocked by dead bodies being sucked up. What a horrid situation.

Same kind of sensationalist reporting as we had from all the networks on 9/11. Remember, could be as many as 25,000 people dead in the twin towers was the initial report. It's not the dead that I worry about now it is the living that needs the attention.

Better news today....from OPB radio news, it appears that they're backing away from that estimate of 10,000 - I hope they're right.
