Default My wife wants a yellow Lab

My wife wants a yellow Lab and while I have had 3 labs I haven't had one for several years.

What should my wife look for in a quality dog?
Do you have any recommendations as far as a good kennel?

I don't hunt anymore but a good lab might spark my interest again.

Thanks

You might want to call Lee at Wind River Labs. Her kennel is in Yacolt, and she has a great reputation as a breeder and trainer. She's even got some a litter of yellow pups. Sound like really nice dogs, and the price is reasonable.

See the post by Capin' Dan in this section. Sounds like he may have a good one that needs a little more training.

I have a two year old yellow lab that needs a good home. He's fixed, is an in-house dog, great footstool and will do anything for food. Interested?

I have a litter that is currently two weeks old. They are coming along great and are out of a great breeding. I have two yellow males that are left and one black. Send me a mail if you are interested.
These are good English type dogs. The mom is an English import and the stud is a really nice looking boy. These dogs should be able to do it all and not be so hyper that they are bounceing off the walls. this litter will produce two to three dogs that will be used for shows and performance and hunt test. It is what this litter was bred for to get the perfect dog for Compition and I think that this litter should provided some really great dogs that will benefit the bred.

$700 is extreme. I got a perfect one for $250. It still bugs me to pay for a dog, but oh well. Would have been $350 with the "papers" but we had no plans to breed her. Sorry I've lost touch with the breeder -- I think they moved.

Your wife has exceptional taste in canines!

L.S. people will only charge what the market can bear. when folks make a good breeding and sell no puppies the price will come down... if not they will be given away until you run out of freinds, neighbors, or relatives without one of your dogs. Right Dan!

Well dogs are a little like boats you dump tons and tons of money into them and get little to no money back. But Rick you will have to say that your girl is about to send you to Costa Rica for the trip of a life time at little to no cost out of your pocket. So when you have a 1000 lb black Marlin handing you your backside remember it was your dog who done it, When you wake up feeling like you want to die in the mornings after staying up all night drinking free boo's It was your dog who done it, When you wake up in the morning with some cute little Tica beside you remember it was me who sent her in there.

Dogs are great. A really good breeding is worth at least 6 to 8 hundred. You can get dogs cheaper but the true breeders who really put a lot into it know what there dogs are worth.

Dan!

I have had two labs in my lifetime and one of them was a WindRiver lab bred from a stud named.....hmmmm, i believe Dito, I also used to have friends with Two WindRiver pups, all very nice dogs. They come highly recommended from me as well.

My second lab was a yellow that I got two years ago now at Devonshire labs. He is a great dog, very friendly, very docile, and not a bad looking pup either (I will post pics if you want). We love the guy and I would highly recommend Devonshire, atleast give them a call and take a look, I think its worth it. They are not bred for hunting, but if your just looking for a dog to have around or show a bit, give them a call, they are located in chehalis WA(sp)

I have two labs, one black female, one yellow female. Both come from hunting/trial lines. The yellow I got from Diamond R Retrievers in Bozman, MT. Great dog. She is only 1 year old, 60 lbs, athletic, great nose and sweet. Still a little crazy though, to be expected at that age. The Rothings are not new to the lab breeding business and are very nice people to deal with.
The black female I got from Coyote Creek Retrievers in Eugene. Very tall, lanky, blocky head (often mistaken for a male) and a great hunter.
The best part about both dogs is that I only hunt 2 or 3 months tops and the rest of the year they are great family members, friends, and fishing buddies. Take your time deciding and stay away from backyard breeders who haven't xrayed hips and had eyes checked, especially if their dog ***** is less than 2 years of age. You are asking for trouble.
