Default Dean Creek Elk Herd

Here's a bunch of bachelor bulls still in velvet at the Dean Creek Wildlife refuge east of Reedsport on Hwy 38. No hunting ia allowed on the refuge area but occasionally these young bulls wander across the boundary on the forested ridge to the south...and become fair game. It's in the Tioga Unit.

Great shot. Might make a good calendar photo. What date was the photo taken?

It was a couple years ago...and it seems like it must have been in June. Was just driving by one day and had my Nikkor 200 mm lens & camera with me when I saw 'em out there.

As of yesterday one of the bulls has already started to corner off around 10 cows and was keeping a smaller bull from coming close. Gotta love that itch in the pants. I guess someone has to start the thing going.

I can hear it now, I know where all these bulls are and I have a cow tag.

Good luck come hunting season I was picked up by a group of archers for this season and I can't wait starkey unit for 7 days.
