Yes I was fortunate to get one of 30 anterless elk tags for this unit. I am looking for any advice that you people are willing to share about this unit either public lands or private if they are willing to give me access. Your help would be greatly appreciated and put to good use.

Thanks, Stkyfsh

Congrats,

I applied for all three of those new hunts and got none of them. From what the guys in the Tillamook district office said, they set these new hunts up because of the recent damage complaints in the area. Sounds like there could be some animals in the area, just have to know where they are.

I suggest getting the exact unit description and go drive it if possible. I suspect that landowners in the area might be more than willing to let a conciensous hunter on to their land if they have had elk damage in the past.

good luck.

This sounds allot like a damage pool hunt I went on a few years back. What I did was contacted the ODFW biologist for the area and talk to him. He gave me a ton of information including where they knew the elk had been hanging out. They were also able to give me the names of some of the land owners in the immediate area. From those names I was able to contact them thru directory assistance and was able to get permission to hunt their property. Also, county records can give you landowner names in your area as well. One of the best tips I got was the person to talk to from the timber company that owned most of the land and he gave me a key to get through their gates since they were the ones who filed the damage complaint with the ODFW. This guy also told me where they had been seeing the elk. The end result of all this information was permission to hunt two ranches and the timber property that resulted in finally cornering te elk on one of the rances and filling my tag. Even though my area was in a different part of the state then yours some of the same contact methods should work for you, good luck.
