Default WTB...Open Water Duck Call

Last year I started hunting down at Lewis and Clark and a bit more up the Columbia near Boardman. My favorite 'usual' call is a Primos Timber Wench (double reed) which has worked well for me. But I would like to add a louder (but still ducky and soft on the low end) single reed. I know that the acryllic's are well known for being loud and RNT's, Echo's and BGB's are a few I have had the chance to play on.

So my question is, does anyone have a call that would fit my need and would be willing to part with for a steal of a deal? Being perpetually unemployed, I am looking for an experienced call that still performs.

Also if you have a personal favorite or one that I should check out, please let me know.

Might I suggest an RNT Quackhead? Just picked one up last spring and it almost sounds like my RNT original acrylic (without that crisp acrylic sound). Or you can try to find a used D.O.A. duck call. I heard one while hunting with suckerfish last year and my hearing is still not totally back yet(shoulda plug muh ears ).

The quackhead don't ring for me. If you can scrounge up an old Olt D-2, they would rattle your teeth with a highball. Still ducky on the bottom end too.

I have an Echo that I may be willing to sell, but it don't SCREAM like a competition call does. Better high end than a Haydels, and really ducky to boot.

The RnTs are screamers too( some models).

For what it is worth, I think that 400 yards is a joke honking at a duck. If they can't hear my low end calls, I'll just hold til they are within range.

But if it is one of the slow I aint killing anything but time days, I may belt out a few notes just to pass the time.

Mark and the Chewbacca sounding dog.

I've had modestly priced calls and I've had inexpensive calls, but the call I always keep nearby is one of the original duck commanders, they still sell them. I've hunted the boardman to state line stretch for 20 years and had some very good 100+ duck years (that's when it was 4 duck bag limits and while I lived up there) But that duck commander never failed me and it's cheap, about $15. It certainly helps to be a good caller and know when to blow it and when to stow it.

LI,

Rauly has a Pureduck by Keith Allen. Its big time snotty at the low end but gets after a high ball well too. I've got 2 Taylor's Talkers that are great calls when I'm not sticking them. Timber Rattler that I just as soon get rid of. My vote would be for the Pureduck. It's going to be my next call. After I get my Saunders GP of course. Gotta love waterfowl paraphanalia !

Crashin' bait...for the sake of argument, let's say 50% of the 'high end' calls. Check your PM's.

I picked up one of the new Echo double reeds for $30 at the festival and it's real ducky.I also have a Pureduck that pulled in a lot of birds last year.My go to call is still a custom tuned Olt 66 single reed.I also like the Primos Wench.I guess these go with my 2 Roy Rhodes, various Kumduck, etc, etc, etc. Now for goose calls I just got a Reload, and have a Halfbreed and Longmag.I was over at Travis Reesers and he showed me what real calling was about.Oh well back to the learning tapes.

If you want loud, Glynn Scobey make the loudest single reed duck call I've heard.
