Bear Hunting Early Season
I have never hunted them early in the season. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they might be feeding on and some areas. Not looking for hot spots just general areas.

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
Right now the blackberries are starting to show as well as the salmon berries. I saw two last night (and got them on video) in a unit chomping on both of them. So right now they'll be out in the open a little in units and areas you can find berries.

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
Almost 85% of the bears we've killed or seen are from 3 pm and later. Once in a while we'll see one in the morning but not nearly as often. As soon as it starts to cool just a tad in the afternoon we start to see them grubbing on berries.

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
Bears are raiding the camp grounds at Miller Lake in the Chemult area. might be a good place to start if they don,t get moved by the FS.

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
They are in the elder berries over here at the coast now. I've saw 4 since friday and could have shot all 4 but don't feel like messing with one on a work night.I see all of mine the last hour or two of light. look for tore up berry patches with the bino's and you found them.

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
Gottafish I probally won't shoot one unless I catch it around the elk calves. I'm just useing it as a reason to keep track of the elk.I might be tempted after bow season is over but the brew won't be ness. Timber

Re: Bear Hunting Early Season
I took a couple of guys out this weekend and saw two. Both of which should've died, but in the end no blood was spilled. The one we saw today was a dandy of a bruin. Can't say I've seen too many more that were larger. They shot twice at 380 yards and missed both times. Pretty long pokes, but hittable. Anyhow, I wish I had some pictures to show for it.
