Default Smelt In Lower River?

When I crossed the bridge this morning, the gulls were diving and floating in the river, eating some kind of tasty morsels. They were still at it when I returned this afternoon. Would bet they are smelt

Thanks for the report. Hope you're right about those buggers. I need more bait.

UG, I did the same thing but noticed where he is from. Illwaco, so I would bet he is talking about the astoria-megler bridge. Get your nets ready boys and girls they are coming. You all think the sandy will hit again this year?

My guess would be the Astoria/Megler bridge since he is from Ilwaco.

Not if the river stays cold. They only come into the Sandy IF water temps warm up enough. As things look this year you might be waiting a looooooong time.

How warm does the Sandy have to get? It was 43 degrees yesterday at mid day. Dennis

I live up the hill from the Sandy and drive over it just about every day either to or from work just to check the levels, color, etc. I have been checking for smelt and if/when I see anything I will post right away with any info. I'm needing some bait so I hope it warms up enough to bring them in.

Geeeze, is my memory bad or had it been about two decades (give or take a year) that the Sandy went without any smelt? Not that I want to be negative or anything, but counting on em hitting there again could be risky. Hmmmm
