We took our kids to the state fair for the first time this year, and had a blast. We went Saturday, and hit every single exhibit and most of the shows.

The games are as rigged as you would expect, and the rides are expensive, as always, but those were just a side thing for us, as we're not into throwing money away.

I got pulled down to be an "assistant" for a magic show. Very embarrassing, but my kids thought it was a hoot. The "Stars of the Peking Acrobats" show was outstanding. The photography exhibit was great. We raise rabbits, so naturally we enjoyed the rabbit exhibit in the Poultry Building immensely. Someday, we will enter one. My kids had a lot of interest in the animals and exhibits, and asked to go back to some of them for a second look.

We brought our lunch, but had dinner at an all you can eat buffet setup inside the fair. Good stuff! I had only been to a county fair in California when I was a kid, and it was the pits, so I hadn't been inclined to go. But I was pleasantly suprised by the state fair. I imagine going every year wouldn't be as exciting, but I would certainly go again.

I took the kids for the 3rd year in a row, and this time was the best by far. The kids are getting older and much more interested in whats going on. We did the skylift and that was a lot of fun. Also saw a rabbit urinate on an old lady. The ladies daughter dang near passed out from laughing so hard. It was awfully amusing. I had never seen anything like that before. One thing for sure, bring some money as it hasn't gotten any cheaper. We were there for only 4 hours and really didn't do any splurging, but still spent $80.

We had totally planned on going specifically just to see my red ribbon fly in the fly tying contest... But alas, we never made it. Kind of a bummer for us all. This is the first time we've missed the state fair since my daughter was born three years ago. She loves checking out the animals.

We went down on Sat. My neice won the youth photo contest so we had to go down and see that. It seems to me that the sate fair is on a downward swing. Not nearly as much going on as there used to be. We still had fun...
