Re: Who went to the state fair?
We took our kids to the state fair for the first time this year, and had a blast. We went Saturday, and hit every single exhibit and most of the shows.
The games are as rigged as you would expect, and the rides are expensive, as always, but those were just a side thing for us, as we're not into throwing money away.
I got pulled down to be an "assistant" for a magic show. Very embarrassing, but my kids thought it was a hoot. The "Stars of the Peking Acrobats" show was outstanding. The photography exhibit was great. We raise rabbits, so naturally we enjoyed the rabbit exhibit in the Poultry Building immensely. Someday, we will enter one. My kids had a lot of interest in the animals and exhibits, and asked to go back to some of them for a second look.
We brought our lunch, but had dinner at an all you can eat buffet setup inside the fair. Good stuff! I had only been to a county fair in California when I was a kid, and it was the pits, so I hadn't been inclined to go. But I was pleasantly suprised by the state fair. I imagine going every year wouldn't be as exciting, but I would certainly go again.
