I spotted a nasty heard of Elk today.....
If anybody is intersted ill let you know where I seen them. Im busted up so this is my first day I can drive well, so I went up to one of my happy Blacktail deer hunting grounds and I seen the largest heard i have ever seen up where i hunt. now the reason i will let the "cat out of the bag" is because i know of nobody that hunts Elk up there . I hunt on the coast. and this area is in the Cascade area approx 30 muiles behind Estacada. now it not saying that they will be there during Elk season but i have always seen tracks. there is appros 35 in this herd and approc 7 branch atlers and 3-4 spikes.

I'm interested, since I don't have alot of vacation dyas.
I'll probably be spending alot of time around
Estacada.
P.S. I'm interested in a decent deer spot for
an evening hunt after work during the 1st archery season.

I'm in. Didn't draw. Live close to estacada. Yeah sounds good. Unfortunately I bet their wintering grounds are far off.

I'm drooling. My partner and I have been working hard trying to find some places in that area that we can hunt without diving our butts off. I'll message you about it. If you don't hear from me, maybe you can drop me some info at chnookie@hotmail.com .

Well I'm not a bit interested in elk but I sure would like to know about the grouse population in that area.

After this stream of attention, this spot may be the new hot spot of hunters. It might even get buisy enough to compare to the coast

Re: I spotted a nasty heard of Elk today.....
Lucky enough, I live close enough to where I usually hunt that I can scout year around.

Re: I spotted a nasty heard of Elk today.....
tramp.....scouting is 60% of the battle. If someone is kind enough to point a direction....by golly I go and take a look. Thtas what makes this forum so nice. People are out to extend a helping hand. I have hunted the same areas for years. And every year I learn somthing new. This year, Ill attempt to learn somthing about an area Ive never been in. May not hunt it this year, may not be ready or understand the lay of the land and animal routes and behaviors. But because a fellow mmber has enlightened me on a possibility....I think i'll SCOUT IT OUT.

Re: I spotted a nasty heard of Elk today.....
Hi fellas i e-mailed some of you directions on where i seen the Elk...and yes you do need to scout it out...for you that are intrested e-mail me and ill give you directions. also the Elk in the Cascade range behind Estacada are so scattered you need to scout to find out where they are...im just helping you get 50% of you work done. all the friends that i know that bow hunt hunt East side or on the coast. i was just getting away on wendsday to kill some time because of my busted up hip, now i can drive, i went up to my happy Blacktail hunting grounds driving down a long stretch of road looking at the beautiful hills and new groth....and Man! THOSE ARE ELK!...i said to myself the herd was split on each side of the road..i seen the same bunch approx 4 yrs ago but the herd has gotten bigger..so go for it fellas.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Last I checked, getting information about where animals might be found from other people was still considered part of the scouting process. It's not like any of us are going to be waiting till the first week of the season to actually go check this stuff out!!
